Obituary of Pearl Mildred Foster
FOSTER, Pearl Mildred – Age 75, Parkdale, Lunenburg Co., passed away on Tuesday, August 29, 2017 in South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater. Born in Maplewood, she was a daughter of the late George and Mildred (Bruhm) Wentzel.
Pearl’s love of her community showed in the many ways she contributed within it. She was a member of the Emmanuel Baptist Church in Parkdale where she served on many committees and sang in the choir prior to her stroke two years ago. She was a life-long member of Livewires 4-H club as well as a leader for 35 years, she was also member and past president of the Women’s Institute. Pearl took an active role in both the Community Hall and Museum, where she volunteered countless hours for the many events that were organized. Pearl was also a volunteer with the local soup kitchen and was a member of the New Germany mixed league bowling team. Pearl had a very active social life prior to her stroke. Although she became wheelchair dependant following it, she was determined to still continue on as she did before. A highlight of her summer was getting to visit with Brandon, Emma, Emery and Kaylie and also a trip to the Bridgewater Exhibition so she could see her grandchildren's 4-H animals and projects. She enjoyed visiting with people and our family is grateful for those who popped in to visit her both at home and in hospital, those visits meant the world to her.
Surviving are her loving husband, Allan and her sons, Clayton (Denise), Parkdale; Dwayne (Terri), Jason (Amy), all of Maplewood; sisters, Mabel (Fred) Witherall, Blandford; Beatrice (Maurice) Witherall, Bedford; brother, Wilbert (Bonnie) Wentzel, Blandford. Pearl was the loving Nanny of Brandon, Kaylie, Joshua, Jacob, Cole Abbie and Seth, great nanny to Emery, step Nanny to Braden, Glenn and Kari. She loved to spend time with her grandchildren at the lake and at home. She taught them many things such as her favourite game of skipbo, quilting, baking bread and her awesome doughnuts, gardening and just the simple life lesson of family and always being a helping hand to those who needed it; she is also survived by many nieces and nephews. She will be missed by ‘Puddin’ her barn cat who she tamed by feeding him Allan's lunch meats. Although she would never admit this to Allan, sometimes she snuck him inside to do so. He was a lot of company when she sat outside during the last few months of her life. Pearl was predeceased by two brothers, Lowell Wentzel and Rodger Wentzell.
Visitation will be 7-9 p.m., Thursday (today) in Sweeny’s Funeral Home, 4895 Highway 10, New Germany. Funeral service will be 2 p.m., Friday, September 1, 2017 in Emmanuel Baptist Church of Parkdale-Maplewood. Pastor Sam Jess officiating. Private family interment will follow in the Parkdale-Maplewood Community Cemetery, Parkdale. Family flowers only, donations may be made to Emmanuel Baptist Church of Parkdale-Maplewood, Parkdale-Maplewood Community Hall or Museum or the charity of choice.
