C. David Flack

Obituary of C. David Flack

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of C. David Flack, our dear husband, father and grandfather, on Monday, November 20, 2017.

He was predeceased by his father, Geoffrey W. Flack, mother, Laura Cumming (Flack) Provan, infant sister, and William T. Provan, David's stepfather.

He was born in Halifax on June 12, 1934 and lived throughout the Atlantic Provinces before settling in Bridgewater. David is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Elizabeth (nee Betty MacKenzie), sons Geoffrey (Michele), Gregory (Cynthia), daughter Jennifer (Kent) Saunders, granddaughters Laura, Grace, Julia, Melanie and Mackenzie, grandson Jackson David FitzGerald, and stepsister, Dolores Guy. David was educated at Rothesay Collegiate School and Acadia University.  During intervening years, he was proud of his time spent working at sea as an Able Seaman. In 1956, Dave became a staff announcer at CKBW where he worked until he joined Sun Life in 1958.  He was loved and admired by clients and co-workers alike. Through his discipline and commitment to his clients, he rose to become Sun Life's Top Canadian Advisor in 1991.  He served as a member of Sun Life's Agents' Advisory Council and became a distinguished speaker at industry meetings, national and international conferences.  In 1993, David received Sun Life's highest distinction when chosen as one of only 10 charter members of Sun Life's Hall of Fame. Helping others was always important to David.  This generosity extended beyond his work to membership in Kinsmen, Kiwanis, and the South Shore Regional Hospital Foundation.  He was a Director of the South Shore Exhibition, Past Chairman of the Bridgewater Development Commission, and Past Commodore of the LaHave River Yacht Club.  He was a past member of Parish Council of Holy Trinity Anglican Church, and an avid member of the Osprey Ridge Golf Club. Special thanks to Dr. Ewart Morse and Dr. Ron Hathaway for their long-time medical care and, more recently, Dr. Greg Jansen, Dr. Janet Walker, Dr. Debbie Gowan, the Palliative Care team and the VON.

Visitation will take place at Sweeny's Funeral Home, Bridgewater, on Wednesday, November 22, 2017 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m.  His funeral service will be conducted by Rev. Simon Davies at Holy Trinity Anglican Church, Bridgewater, on Thursday, November 23, 2017, at 2 p.m.; reception to follow in the Parish Hall. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Holy Trinity Anglican Church, Bridgewater and the South Shore Regional Hospital Foundation.  On-line condolences may be made by visiting www.sweenysfuneralhome.com.
