Obituary of Megan Girouard

Girouard, Gwynneth, Megan (Munro), passed away December 26, at home. Megan was born April 25, 1949 in Truro, to the late Colin K. Munro and Gwynneth Munro (McMullin). After graduating from Truro High School in 1967, Megan entered nursing school at Victoria General Hospital in Halifax, graduating in 1970. Prior to retiring in 2015, Megan’s nursing career included work at the following: Victoria General Hospital, Halifax; Dawson Memorial, Bridgewater; Rosedale Home for Special Care, New Germany; Hillside Pines Home for Special Care, Bridgewater. Megan attended St. Joseph’s Catholic Church for many years, and recently , the United Church in Petite Riviere. She was a life- long member of Beta Sigma Phi, and along with her husband, Richard, a member of the British Automobile Touring Association of Nova Scotia. Megan was most recently involved with Ovarian Cancer Canada, raising awareness through the volunteer advocacy initiative. Megan is survived by her husband, Richard, Petite Riviere; daughters, Lesley (Sanjay) Mehta, Mississauga, Ontario; Allison (Jason) Hansford-Smith, Upper Tantallon; Anne (Craig) Rowter, Conquerall Mills; sister, Keltie (Allan) Bruce, Truro; brother, Charles (James Sung), New Westminster, B.C;  seven grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.  A memorial service will be held Tuesday, January 2, at 11 am in Wesley United Church in Petite Riviere, with a reception to follow. No flowers by request. Memorial donations may be made to the Ovarian Cancer Society of Nova Scotia, and the palliative care unit in Lunenburg.
