Obituary of George Alfred Lake

LAKE, George Alfred - 84, Bridgewater, passed away January 9, 2018, in Harbour View Haven, Lunenburg. Born Nov 8, 1933 in Wolfville, he was a son of the late Alfred James and Ethel Kate (Taylor) Lake. A King Scout as a boy, he was involve in Scouting for most of his life, including District Commissioner for Lunenburg Co..  At the age of 17 he saved a man and wife from drowning in Sunken Lake, and received an award from the Chief Scout. Hockey was his game, having played in the Metro-Valley League while still in school, and for the Championship New Germany Legionaires until age 40.  He was a member of the Bridgewater Volunteer Fire Department for 40 years. A graduate of the Maritime Forest Ranger School; Fredericton, he was employed in forestry for as long as his feet would carry him, working for the Dept. of Lands and Forests, Scott Maritimes Pulp, and Lunenburg Regional Vocational School, from where he retired.  Retirement just meant more time to work in the woods.

 

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Ruth Marjorie (Coffill) Lake, Harbour View Haven; sons, Peter Stafford (Mary Ann) Lake, of Bridgewater, and Allen Coffill (Kitty) Lake of Lapland, her children Jared and Jenna Pentz; daughters, Susan Rachel (William) Prince of Mirimichi; Mary Ruth (Milheron) (Michael) Moore of Moosejaw, Sask. and Southwest Port Mouton; and Nancy Eileen (Ronald) Collier of Murray Harbour North, PEI; brother Donald Alfred Lake of Willowdale, Ontario; grandchildren Rebecca Anne Lake and her son Liam Timothy Christopher Noonan; Jennifer Kay (John Angus) MacDonald, and their children Kayley Marie, and John Angus; James Arthur (Sarah) and their sons Jacob James Lake and Landon Harlan Lake, his son Fenix Lamont King Lake, and his stepdaughter Asia Shannon King; Anthony Raymond (Erin) Lake; Jonathan Arthur (Jessica) Prince and their son Elliot Arthur Prince; Michael James Prince; Benjamin Thomas Eric (Jessica) Lake and their son Sawyer Allen Lake; Matthew John Mason (Rebecca) Lake; Taylor Allen Leigh (Chloe) Lake; Robert Neil (Summer) Milheron; Joseph Arthur (Candice) Collier; Rachael Irene Collier; and Owen Edward Collier. 

 

Besides his parents he was predeceased by sister, Eileen DeMone; brother, Kenneth Edwin Lake. 

 

Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held Sunday from 7-9 p.m., Sunday January 14th in Sweeny's Funeral Home, Bridgewater. Funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Monday, at Sweeny’s Funeral Home, Bridgewater, Rev Fran Boutilier, Fire Service Chaplain officiating. Interment of ashes at a later date in Brookside Cemetery, Bridgewater. Family flowers only. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
