Obituary of Gordon "Joey" Marcus Mader

MADER, Gordon “Joey” Marcus – Age 87, Bridgewater, formerly of New Germany, Lunenburg Co., passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 25, 2018 in South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater. Born in Stanley Section, he was a son of the late Murray and Annie (Joudrey) Mader.

Prior to retirement, Joey worked at the former, West End Esso Service Station, New Germany for over 20 years; he then went to work with Acadia Construction, Bridgewater and later was employed with Feilding & Wynn Hardware, New Germany with the oil delivery service. Continuing with the oil delivery service, Joey finished his working years with Cook’s Oil, Bridgewater. He was a long-time, dedicated, faithful member of St. John in the Wilderness Anglican Church, New Germany, singing in the choir, cast of the Parish Players dinner theatre and served the parish for many years as a layreader. Gordon was also a member of the former New Germany and Area Men’s Choir.

Surviving are his special companion of over 50 years, Esther Mae Robar, Bridgewater; nephews, Richard Snyder (Shirley), Michael Snyder (Julia), Cedric Snyder, all of New Germany; Dereck (Lorraine) Snyder, Stanley Section; great nieces, Nena, Julie (Darren), Angela (Galen), Nancy (Rob) and Heidi; great-great nieces, Lyric and Zola.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by a sister, Vera Snyder; brother, Bernard Mader.

Visitation will be held 7-9 p.m,. Wednesday, August 29 in Sweeny’s Funeral Home, 4895 route 10, New Germany. Service of Celebration will be held 11 a.m., Thursday, August 30, 2018 in St. John in the Wilderness Anglican Church, New Germany with Rev. Mellanie Cohoon and Rev. Catherine Robar officiating. Private family interment will follow in Lakeview Cemetery, New Canada. Family flowers only please, donations may be made to St. John in the Wilderness Anglican Church or a charity of choice.
