Obituary of Estella Marie DeLong

DeLong, Estella Marie – It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dearly loved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Estella DeLong, age 89, on Sunday January 16, 2022 in the South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater.

Born in Stanburne, Lunenburg County, Estella was one of 14 children born to William and Opal Joudrey.  After completing her education at the one-room schoolhouse in Stanburne, she worked at Zwicker’s Store in New Germany until she married Ottis DeLong and moved to the farm at Barss Corner. She was her husband’s partner, helping out wherever needed, all while raising five children and eventually running DeLong’s restaurant in New Germany.

Estella was well-known for her hospitality.  She was a great cook, making sure everyone was well fed. She was welcoming to everyone and loved visitors, especially children. She dearly loved her family, and always wanted to keep up with what was going on in their lives.

Margaret, Thomas, Reuben, Jennifer, Joel, Anna, Benjamin, Isabel, Quinn, Kathleen, and Phillip; 10 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
