
Obituary of Donald Edward Hopkins
It is with great sadness the family ofDonald Hopkins of West LaHave, N.S., announces the passing of their father on Saturday, February 22, 2025. He was surrounded by family, in the comfort of his home. Born in Bridgewater, N.S. on December 2, 1937, he was the son of the late Lyle D. Hopkins and Vera L. (Coulthard) Hopkins.
Don attended Mount Allison University and earned a Bachelor of Science Degree (1961) and Diploma in Engineering (1960). This is also where he met his wife of 35 years, the late H. Maureen Hopkins. He is also predeceased by his brother David. Don is survived by their 3 children, Karen (Vancouver), Graham (Bridgewater), Gordon (Pleasantville), grandchildren Alexandria (Vancouver), John (London), Rachel (Halifax), sister-in-law Brenda Hopkins, and several nephews.
Don joined Acadia Construction Ltd. where he served for 32years including as President and CEO of Acadia Road Builders, Acadia Construction, and the Acadia group of companies. He proudly contributed to the community serving as Past President of the Kinsmen Club, Family and Children’s Services of Lunenburg County, South Shore Community Concert Association, and N.S. Construction Curling Association. He also was a Board member of the Construction Association of Nova Scotia, Construction Industry Development Council, YMCA of Lunenburg County, many committees of the Bridgewater United Church, and an active member of K-40.
Don enjoyed an active life, he relished the theatre, music especially where Maureen was performing, and was an avid traveller. Whether Don was a solo adventurer throughout Asia and the Middle East, or with close friends and family through Australia, South America, Europe, and North America, hot airballoons, camel rides or moped tours were always part of the journey. Many winters were also enjoyed in Mexico with Dale and Larry.
A Celebration of Life will be planned for the Spring.
