Obituary of Shirley Marie Acker-Robar

ROBAR, Shirley Marie (Acker) – Age 77, of New Germany. It is with heartfelt sadness that the family announce the passing of Shirley Acker-Robar on March 17, 2025, in South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater, with her family by her side. Shirley was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister.

She was the daughter of the late Obie and Marion (Crouse) Acker. Shirley was a strong woman who always had a strong faith. She did her daily readings and added to her journals. She was loved by everyone who knew her, and she loved everyone.

She enjoyed ceramics, quilting, crocheting and knitting. Her favourite pastime was puzzles and bingo. You would always find a puzzle on her table, where she was more than happy for anyone who popped in to find a piece or two. There was never a shortage of chocolate, as she loved her chocolate and had her secret hiding places for the special treats.

Shirley loved her family unconditionally and cherished her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They brought her so much happiness and laughter that she would talk about their visit for days. She was also known as “Old Nan” by great-grandchildren, Hunter and Hannah. Shirley will always be remembered for her infectious laugh, which will brighten the lives of all who knew her.

She is survived by her loving children, daughter, Glenda (Phil) Robar; sons, Beven (Dorothy) Robar, and Dale Robar; grandchildren, Dennis (Eric) O’Neil-Wood, Jackie Robar, Krista (Brett) Weagle, Jeffrey (Julia) Legge, Stephen (Kayla) Legge, Dexter Robar, and Austin Robar; great-grandchildren, Kadence. Brelynn, Axel, Hunter and Hannah. Besides her parents, Shirley was predeceased by daughter, Bernadette; grandson, Johnathan; sister, Faye; and brothers, Donny, Kenny and Roland.

A public Graveside Service for Shirley will be held Sunday, April 27, 2025, at 2 PM, in Springfield Cemetery, with Rev. Robert Gates officiating the service. There will be a reception immediately following the service in the cemetery at Springfield Fire Hall. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Springfield Baptist Church.
