Obituary of Elizabeth "Liz" Lee
In Loving Memory of Elizabeth (Liz) Lee
It is with deep sadness that my brothers, David, Richard, and I announce the passing of our beloved mum, Elizabeth (Liz) Lee, on the first day of Spring, March 20, 2025.
Elizabeth Dennison was born in Greengates, Yorkshire, England, in March 1937. Mum was trained as a classical vocalist in Opera and German Lieder. She performed across the UK, including with the Sadler’s Wells Company in London, and later continued to share her gift in Canada after we moved here from England in 1967.
She was predeceased by her first husband, Sydney Norman Herman, in 1982, and her second husband, Carl Hirsch Lee, in 2017.
Mum moved to Nova Scotia with my husband and I from Burlington, Ontario, in 2019, as her battle with dementia began. The journey we shared was intense, yet always filled with humour and love.
The support we received along the way was immeasurable, and while there are too many to name, we would like to express our heartfelt thanks to the staff at Hillside Pines—Nurses, CCAs, LTCA’s, Life Enrichment, Housekeeping, Dietary, and all the residents and their families. You became our family over the past year and a half. Special thanks to Jade Nauss, who kept mum company when I couldn’t be there—her kindness and compassion were evident, and I know she will be an incredible CCA. Also, a heartfelt thank you to Teresa Milbury for your unwavering support , guidance and friendship during this time.
Through the challenges of dementia, it became clear just how deeply mum was loved. Though words were often difficult for her, she still remembered the songs she once sang, filling the hallways with music as she moved through them.
Mum was often described as “spicy” or “the little songbird.” She had an edge, but her beautiful deep blue eyes, radiant smile, and sense of humour could melt anyone’s heart. She touched many lives in her new home of Nova Scotia, and her impact will be felt by all who knew her.
Mum leaves behind a growing family: her sons, David (Janet) and Richard (Jennifer); daughter, Amanda (Michael); granddaughter, Sydney (Cameron) and three grandsons, William, Cole, and Jake (Ryley). Mum also recently became a great-grandmother to twins, Charles and Lincoln.
A private family celebration of life will be held. In memory of mum, donations to the Life Enrichment Program at Hillside Pines Home in Bridgewater would be wonderful and greatly appreciated – in mum’s words, “Marvelous, Darling.”
With love,
Mandy, David, and Richard
