Obituary of Goldie Bernice Hills
HILLS, Goldie Bernice – Age 90, of Italy Cross, passed away Sunday, May 19, 2025, in Hillside Pines Home for Special Care, Bridgewater. Born in Kentville, she was the daughter of Cecil and Bernice (Huntley) Aalders.
Goldie loved gardening, sewing, knitting, and crochet among many other crafting projects. She also enjoyed doing yoga, tending her many houseplants, and could be caught using cardboard to coast down the hill in winter. Many in the motorcycle community may remember her tagging along on the back of her son-in-law’s bike in the not-so-distant past. Goldie was also one of the founding members of the Daisy thrift store, where she volunteered until around five years ago after an accident prevented her from continuing. Before the Daisy’s time, she enjoyed being a part of the annual Spring Fling fundraiser for the South Shore Regional Hospital. She was also an active member of the Italy Cross and Middlewood Fire Department Auxiliary, where she spent many years having a lot of fun with the other volunteers helping with the numerous and varied fundraisers.
Goldie is survived by her sisters, Joyce Aalders, Dobbie (Conrad, deceased), Diana Aalders (Garth), and Elizabeth Aalders; brother, Kenneth Aalders (Carolyn); sons, Gary Hills (Karen), and Hal Hills (Melanie); daughter, Wendy (Hills) Cleversey (Ron); grandchildren, Derrick Selig, Catrina Hills, Justin Hills, Jason Hills, Natasha (Hills) Carron, Julia Cleversey, and Devon Cleversey; and several great-grandchildren, including Brian, Michael, Alexa, Kiera, Jax.
Besides her parents, Goldie is predeceased by her husband of 59 years, Harold Hills; sister, Phyllis (Aalders) Milne (Gerald Milne, deceased); brothers, Eric Aalders (Eleanor, also deceased), Louis Aalders, and Roger Aalders (Donna).
