Obituary of Silas Merle Rhodenizer

 

RHODENIZER, Silas Merle – Age 88, of Parkdale, Lunenburg Co., passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 24, 2025, in Rosedale Home for Special Care, New Germany, where he had been residing. Born in Parkdale, he was a son of the late Lowell Milton and Mabel Rosena (Cook) Rhodenizer.

Merle was a devoted husband, father and lifelong woodsman. He was passionate about his faith and loved to be out of doors watching the birds and deer. He enjoyed being in his garden, reading and sneaking a sweet treat. Merle wasn’t one for fuss, and he’ll be remembered for the honest, quiet life he lived, his grit, his quirks, and the easy joy he found in the everyday.

Surviving are daughters, Karen (Peter) Smith, Union Square; Tamara (Glenn) Mason, Spectacle Lake; grandchildren, Thomas Smith, Amber Ault, Jennie Sarty, Jay Mason, John Mason, April Cook, Autumn Mason; great-grandchildren, Sophie Ault, Graham Sarty, Nora Sarty, Brooklynn Mason, Ross Mason and Eden Mason; sister, Marilyn (John) Kaulback; sister-in-law June Rhodenizer; and many nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife of 63 years, Miriam Janet (nee Veinot); son, Joseph “Joey” Rhodenizer; granddaughter, Hannah Smith; and brother, Mervin Rhodenizer.

There will be no visitation at the funeral home by request. Service of Remembrance will be held 11, a.m., Saturday, June 7, 2025, in Emmanuel Baptist Church of Parkdale – Maplewood. Rev. Paul Hatfield officiating. Family flowers only please, donations may be made to Emmanuel Baptist Church of Parkdale-Maplewood, Parkdale-Maplewood Community Cemetery, Canadian Diabetes Association or a charity of choice.
