Kayla Thomas

Obituary of Kayla Lynn Thomas

It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of Kayla Lynn Thomas, who left this world far too soon at the age of 37, in the comfort of her home, surrounded by her family.

Born on July 31, 1987, Kayla brought light, laughter, and love into every life she touched. Her love for music, trivia, good food, cooking, and playing games brought people together and made her spirit unforgettable.  Kayla was a devoted mother, wife, daughter, sister, friend, and a source of strength and joy to all who knew her.

Kayla had a gift for making people feel seen, and always made them feel heard. Whether it was through her professional life as a community pharmacist, or as a valued family member during an important conversation Kayla made the world feel a little safer, and a little kinder. Kayla’s presence filled every room, and her absence leaves an unfillable space in our hearts.

With a passion for live music, Kayla loved listening to the Red Hot Chili Peppers and enjoyed both spending time outdoors in the shade, as well as looking up at the stars at the beach. She lived her life with purpose, resilience and grace. Kayla’s love for her son, Cameron was the heartbeat of her life, and her memory will live on through him and through every life she touched.

Kayla is survived by her husband Colin Groves; son, Cameron Groves; mother, Adella Williams (Denver Williams); father, Christopher Abbott (Kim MacEwan); brothers, Cole James Abbott (Jordan Laffin), and Nickolas Williams (Amber Williams) who will all cherish her memory forever. She was predeceased by late husband Owen Hugh Calcott Thomas (2018).

As per Kayla's request, there will be no services held. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Kayla’s memory to the Canadian Cancer Society.

Though she is no longer with us in body, Kayla’s light lives on in the love she gave, the memories we hold, and the legacy she leaves behind.

Kayla’s family would like to acknowledge and state their appreciation for the support of her physicians, nurses, and health care workers during an impossible time.
