Obituary of Ernest Keith Wade

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of E. Keith Wade, who died peacefully on June 28, 2025, at the age of 82.

Born in Annapolis Royal, NS on November 15, 1942, Keith grew up in Halifax and Yarmouth before moving to Toronto, where he completed a program at the Radio College of Canada that led him back to Halifax. There, he began a 35-year career with Maritime Tel & Tel, where he met his beloved wife, Diane. Together, they created a loving home for their three daughters, Wendy, Judy and Paula, and raised them with love, guidance, and many wonderful memories.

Keith’s life was filled with adventure, family, and a deep love for the outdoors. He was the master of road trips, the family photographer/ videographer, birding enthusiast, fisherman, tropical fish expert and loved all things sci-fi. Keith and Diane formed memorable friendships with their neighbors on Birkdale Crescent and Canterbury Close and spent holidays with dear friends in the Caribbean.

In 2000, Keith and Diane built their dream home in Broad Cove on land that had long been part of Diane’s family. There, they created a haven and enjoyed country living to the fullest. Some of the best times were summers and holidays spent with the girls and their extended family. Keith remained in Broad Cove until 2023, when he moved back to the city, but the home and its memories will live on in all who had the pleasure to visit.

Keith had a lifelong interest in technology, electronics, and gadgets.  He was an active member of the Halifax Amateur Radio Club (VE1 EKW) and volunteered with emergency services when needed. He spent many hours hanging out with the ham radio crew at McDonald's for coffee and chat. Keith was an avid fisherman, and over the years, he enjoyed many fishing trips with his daughters and friends. In particular, he was thrilled to discover a shared love for fishing with his son-in-law, Andre, and his father, Jean, who became great companions for fishing adventures over the past 20 years. Not only did Keith have an interest in wildlife and birds he had a soft spot for the family pets, especially his dear persian cat Zackery.

Keith was predeceased by his parents, Donald and Phyllis Wade, and his loving wife, Diane, whom he was married to for 36 years before her passing in 2004. He is survived by his daughters, Wendy (Michael), Judy (Andre), and Paula, and his beloved grandson, Samuel. He will be missed by many extended family and friends. Special mention to his Broad Cove family — Adele Herman, Bob Herman, Shelley Scott and Gary Herman and special friends Charlie and Mary Teal and Linda and Shawn Benvie.

The family would like to thank the staff at Ivy Meadows, Beaverbank, NS for the care provided in his last days. In accordance with Keith’s wishes, no formal services will be held. Those wishing to honour his memory are invited to make a donation to the Broad Cove Community Hall, Lunenburg County. https://broadcovehall.ca/donations/.
