Obituary of Donald Alexander Beattie

 

BEATTIE, Donald Alexander – it is with deep sadness that our family announces the passing of Donald Alexander Beattie, age 89, of Bridgewater, Lunenburg Co., on Monday, June 30, 2025, in South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater. He was born in Kitchener, Ontario, the son of the late Alex and Christinia (Weir) Beattie.

He is survived by his loving wife, Joan (Hiltz) Beattie, Bridgewater; son, Donald (Jenny), her daughters, Hayley and Emily, and grandson, Jett; brothers-in-law, Wayne (Muriel) Hiltz, Jack Nielsen; and special friend, Art Veniot.

Don worked for Bell Canada for 34 years and especially enjoyed the experience of working three years in insolation in the far North; later he worked with Rogers Telecommunications.

During those years he and Joan enjoyed many spring vacations in Barbados. They also travelled to Northern Ontario, Quebec, British Columbia, Florida, Mexico and Brazil. While living in Toronto, they made many car trips to Nova Scotia to visit the Hiltz family.

He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, branch 24, Bridgewater.

Don enjoyed many years meeting his friends for coffee daily, regardless of the weather.

There will be no visitation at the funeral home by request. A public graveside funeral service will be held 2 p.m., Monday, July 7, 2025, in Fort Point Cemetery, LaHave. Rev. Neil McEwen officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Health Services Foundation of the South Shore (90 Glen Allan Drive, Bridgewater, NS B4V 3S6), Bridgewater United Church (87 Hillcrest Street, Bridgewater, NS B4V 1T2), or a charity of your choice. The Family wishes to express their sincere thanks for the support and kindness of the VON, EHS responders, Dr. Daniel DuToit, Dr. Heather Robertson and Dr. Craig Ferguson. Also, thanks to the staff and nurses of the 4th floor and the Palliative Care staff of South Shore Regional Hospital for their wonderful care and compassion. Our thanks to Rev. Neil McEwen for his care and guidance during a very sad and difficult time for the family and for all his visits with Don. We also wish to acknowledge the care and guidance of Sweeny’s Funeral Home.
