Obituary of Ray Fuller

FULLER, Raymond “Ray” Albert, of New Germany, Lunenburg Co., known to his many loved ones as Cappa, Bucky, Grampy Ray, and even Santa — slipped away at the sprightly age of 85 with a loving serenade from his family on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, at Rosedale Home for Special Care, New Germany. Was it their singing that nudged him to skedaddle? We might never know, but who could blame him? Don't ask for an encore! In a surprise twist, Ray's departure was the quickest move he ever made, a stark contrast to his usual 'Kingston time' approach to life at a snail's pace - a pace so leisurely it often arrived after his original suggested timeline. But perhaps he caught a glimpse of his beloved soulmate Dolores and combined with the singing... he decided it was time.

Born in Kingston, Ont., on August 16, 1939, he was a son of the late James and Hazel (Smith) Fuller. Ray was deeply proud of his Kingston roots, a fact he made sure everyone knew and referenced whenever possible, and especially if anyone commented on his slow pace, as mentioned above.

Remaining with us are his daughters: Nancy Watson (Roger) of New Germany, Judi Colp from Nineveh, and Sherry (Greg) Russell, also from New Germany. His son, Glen (Nadine) Slauenwhite, also resides in New Germany. The grandchildren lineup features: Kenneth Watson, Jillian Russell, Devin Slauenwhite, James Watson, Christopher Russell, Deanna Slauenwhite, Zachary Colp, Allie Colp, and William Colp.
The great-grandkids squad includes: Makayla and Kenny Watson, Malachi Colp-Smith, Harley and Theodora Colp, Jack Slauenwhite, Simeon and Owen Ferrey, and Levi & Tessa Trepanier. Step-great-grandkids, Aftyn and Jasper, along with great-great-grandson, Kenneth J.R. Watson; and several nieces and nephews.

Apart from his parents, he was predeceased in passing by his “honey-lamby sweetiepie” wife, Dolores (Christopher-Dowding) Fuller; his sister, Babs Levette from England; his brother, Fred Fuller; half-brothers, Charles and James Fuller; and his son-in-law, Barry Colp.

There will be no visitation at the funeral home, instead, Ray’s life will be remembered with a Memorial Service featuring a Royal Canadian Legion Tribute. It all kicks off at 1p.m. on Tuesday, September 2, 2025, at Sweeny’s Funeral Home, 4895 Highway 10, New Germany, with Rev. Catherine Robar steering the ship. A private family interment will quietly slip in at Epworth Cemetery, New Germany. Instead of flowers, please consider donating to the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 102—a place Ray held close to his heart and where he generously volunteered countless hours over the years — or to Rosedale Home for Special Care.

Following the service, please join us downstairs at the Legion, 44 Varner Road, New Germany, where we will be hosting his celebration of life. As specifically requested by the legend himself, there will be a toast (or maybe more than one!) in Ray’s honour.
