Our sincere condolences to Bev and family on Steve's passing. I had the pleasure of working with Steve in a number of different capacities at High Liner and with his volunteer work in the community. He displayed the same traits in both. He was a scientist and was process driven in his approach, he worked tirelessly until the work was done and knew no limit in the effort to reach his goals.
He was community minded and contributed greatly to the running, triathalon and chess programs in the local area. Bev was Steve's greatest cheerleader and supported him in his many endeavours. He will be deeply missed by the local community and his colleagues at High Liner.

My heartfelt condolences go out to Bev, Steve's family, and all of my fellow members of the Bridgewater Triathlon Community. Steve was a wonderful role model for all of us - so supportive and encouraging, so generous with his time snd genuine caring. Steve led by example, with his own relentless training and the joy he obviously felt in being outside in any weather, keeping himself in shape while inspiring others like me. Steve sent me birthday greeting every year for years after my wife and I had retired and moved to NB, and the wonderful memories of our many triathlon training hours would flood back to me. Fittingly, the last time I saw Steve, he and Bev were volunteering at the Riverport Duathlon - happily sharing their time and passion to support and inspire others. Thank you, Steve, for the gifts you so generously gave to me and countless others. You will be sadly missed. But rest assured that any time I think of you it will bring a smile to my face and positive energy to my spirit. Your friend, Jim Morrison

Steve welcomed me to the triathlon community when I first started triathlon and having just moved to Bridgewater. We had many road rides in Bridgewater, and always appreciated both Steve and Bev with all their stories and adventures. Crossing on the La Have ferry, the bakery, and lots of smiles.
Steve was a positive force, who has left a lasting legacy.
Condolences to his entire family, he will be missed. ❤️

Stephen was the first born in our family of 8. I was 5th. My first memory of Steve was camping and riding on his shoulders as a toddler, while my Dad did the same with my younger sister Andrea. We were probably at Sibbald Point provincial park where we went often, such a thrill for kids. Dad invoked our love of the outdoors and Steve certainly embraced it.I remember going to the pond near RJ Lang school where Steve would net mosquitoes for his fish - i still get a thrill out of doing same for my gold fish. We lived in a small bungalow in Willowdale which helped our desire to get outside.
I remember Steve used to pace the house reading text books, chess books or novels out loud while we played and fought and tried to disturb his concentration. He never lost his temper or his concentration. He rode his bike year round to York University - probably faster than taking the bus 7 km. At times we shared a bedroom and i remember him getting me into Rock listening to Q107 on a small clock radio. He'd sing along (out of key)and everything reminded him of song lyrics - i still do that. Bev and Steve found each other and became known as "The Fish Freaks" to my friends they had so many and so many trophies.40 years later my childhood friends still remember that. Us younger kids got to go to the CNE on labour Day - the last day of the "X" as Dad would drive the car downtown to help bring back the fish from the competition and more trophies and ribbons Steve had won.
We all had nick names and Steve's was Boris after Boris Spasky a chess grandmaster of the USSR....back in the US, back in the USSR...I never beat him at chess -few did
From the early days until my last visit to Nova Scotia in August of 2024 i realized what true love us in how Steve and Bev looked into each others eyes and laughed often. Rest in peace big brother. We all love you.

Many condolences from myself and my wife Julie Curwin. I don't know how many races and relays we saw Steve at, but I don't ever remember him not smiling and increasing the fun level in a 50 square foot radius around him.
