Obituary of Jean Ethiel Mosher

MOSHER, Jean Ethiel – Age 93, of New Germany, Lunenburg Co., died peacefully at the Rosedale Home for Special Care, New Germany, where she had been residing. Born June 16, 1932, in Barss Corner, she was a daughter of the late Herman Prescott and Blanche Ethiel (Risser) DeLong.

After Jean completed her own schooling in Barss Corner, she began teaching and continued for a year, when she married Hubert MacKay. She then became a mother and remained as a homemaker, where she then began sewing for Suttles & Seawinds. Jean always enjoyed her summers on Lake Peter, where she would entertain family and friends. Once she and her husband Hubert closed MacKay’s Sawmill, they began traveling to Florida for winters – a place she loved and made a circle of friends.

Jean was a member of Epworth United Church, where she was a dedicated volunteer for many of the church committees. Several years after losing Hubert, Jean found companionship with Carl Mosher, whom she later married and where they enjoyed life together. After Carl’s death, she decided to leave New Germany and take residence in her new apartment in Bridgewater. She continued to reside in town until her health deteriorated, and she made the decision to move to the Rosedale Home for Special Care, where she resided until she passed.

Jean was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Surviving is her granddaughters, Jennifer and Alexa; sisters-in-law, Pauline DeLong, Barbara DeLong, Merna Cox, Bonnie Oickle, and Ann DeLong; many nieces, nephews and extended family members from the MacKay and Mosher families.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her first husband, Hubert MacKay, second husband, Carl Mosher; two daughters in infancy, Janet and Betty; son, Alvin MacKay; sister, Vivian (Ralston) Eisener; brothers, Vernon (Marjorie) DeLong, Ottis (Estella) DeLong, Harry DeLong, Carl (Beatrice) DeLong, Laurie DeLong.

There will be no visitation at the funeral home by request. Funeral service 2 p.m., Monday, September 22, 2025, in Epworth United Church, New Germany with Rev. David Lutes officiating. Interment will follow in Epworth Cemetery. Family flowers only please, donations may be made to Rosedale Home for Special Care, Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia or Epworth United Church.
