My mother, Eileen (Slauenwhite) Hirtle was raised with Fayette as her sister. They were very close and enjoyed each other's company. I remember visiting Aunt Fayette and Uncle Irving as our family would stop by every weekend on our way from Halifax to our cottage at Molega Lake. Mom and Fayette would have lively conversations with lots of merriment. Aunt Fayette always had a twinkle in her eye and I remember her lighthearted laugh. My sisters and I enjoyed her home-baked cookies, biscuits or pies which always seemed to be ready whenever we popped in. I moved away after my marriage to Ontario and then California, so rarely saw Aunt Fayette over the years. I am immensely grateful to have visited her at age 104 in Port Medway during my last visit to N.S. She was so lovingly cared for by Janina and Gregory. Aunt Fayette was the quintessential Christian woman, showing her love of God through her kindness and generosity to all. I am coming to N.S. next week and am sad to have missed her celebration of life. She was the last of my mother's generation, so this is bittersweet. May she rest in the arms of our Lord and enjoy reuniting with her loved ones.
