Obituary of Joel Curtis Hurtubise


HURTUBISE, Joel Curtis – Age 46, of Crescent Beach, Lunenburg Co., died Thursday, November 27, 2025, in New Germany, as a result of a motor vehicle accident. Born in Scarborough, Ontario, he was the son of C. Joanne (Murray) Shadgett, Peterborough, Ontario and David (Chari Keet) Hurtubise, British Columbia  

Joel was a paramedic with Emergency Health Services (EHS), and a proud volunteer with the United Communities Fire Department. Joel was also active in the Bridgewater Baptist Church, where he sang in the choir. He was a volunteer coach with the Park View Panthers basketball and football teams. Joel was also a former member of the Shorelines, a local band comprised of paramedics and firefighters that enjoyed playing music along the South Shore.

Joel will be lovingly remembered by his parents, C. Joanne (Murray) Shadgett, Peterborough, Ont., and David (Chari) Hurtubise, BC; children, Naomi Grace Hurtubise and Rowan Levi Gordon Hurtubise; and former wife, Marissa Hurtubise, all of Midville Branch; sisters, Heather (Deryck) Robertson, Peterborough, Ont., Andrea Brown, Spruce Grove, Alberta, and Murinda (Peter) Poley, Peterborough, Ont.; brother, Murray (Aimeé) Shadgett, Peterborough, Ont.; as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

There will be no visitation at the funeral home by request. Funeral service will be held 2 p.m., Friday, December 5, 2025, in Bridgewater Baptist Church, Rev. Dr. Aaron Kenny officiating. Private family burial will take place in Brookside Cemetery, Bridgewater. Following the service, all are welcome to a reception at Bridgewater Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be to Bridgewater Baptist Church, the Salvation Army, or the United Communities Fire Department.
