Obituary of Christopher Lloyd Melvin

It is with great sorrow the Melvin family announce the passing of Christopher Lloyd Melvin, at the Halifax Infirmary on December 18, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.  Born in East River, Lunenburg County, he was the son of the late Lloyd and Ginny (Smith) Melvin.

Chris was a proud serving member for 34 years of the Bedford and Halifax Regional Police where he made countless connections and life-long friendships. He was a lover of all things outdoors including hunting, fishing, boating and ATVing. Like his father Lloyd, he was a fixer of almost everything.  Chris was often the first person his daughters would reach out to when they needed help with anything. This later was extended to his daughter-in-laws as well. But it was when he became a grandfather that his sentimental side became much more apparent. From bringing tissues to Christmas concerts, to having a “bear hug” with his special Pal, being a grandfather was the cherry on top.

Chris leaves behind his loving wife Nancy MacAloney; daughters Krista (Sheryl) and Heather (Maggie); grandson and special pal Liam; sister Ann (Chris) Hirtle; brother Paul; sister-in-laws, Betty Doyle (Paul), Margaret Davis (Lou); and brother-in-law Peter MacAloney. Chris also leaves behind several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Arrangements have been made with Sweeny’s Funeral Home, 35 York Street, Bridgewater, NS, to host those who would like to share a moment of laughter and storytelling with the family on Monday, December 22, 2025, from 2-4pm.

The family would like to send a special thank you to the staff of the South Shore Regional Hospital in Bridgewater, CVICU 5.1 and Cardiac Surgery 7.1 of the Halifax Infirmary, and Dr K Jensen.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in honor of Chris to the Heart & Stroke Foundation.
