Obituary of Arnold Leroy Demone
DEMONE Jr., Arnold Leroy, fondly known as Junior - age 84, of New Germany, Lunenburg Co., NS, passed away peacefully at South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater, on Thursday, December 25, 2025.
He was born January 22, 1941, to Arnold and Ivy (DeMone) DeMone, the eldest of 11 children. He began his schooling in a one-room schoolhouse in North River, Lunenburg Co., and completed his education in New Germany.
In 1960 he met the love of his life, Marlene Marie (Silver). They were married October 26,1963 creating a beautiful life together.
He spent most of his working life in the Christmas tree industry, a career he took great pride in. He began his woods career with Bowater Mersey, working both outside and in the cookhouse, and later dedicated 45 years of service to Kirk Forest Products Ltd., where he eventually retired. In 1981 he purchased his own woodlot as well. To some it would be considered more work, but to him it was his hobby farm. He took great pride in this space and where he shared his knowledge of his skill with his family. His strong work ethic and commitment were evident throughout his life and in all that he touched.
Arnold had many interests and passions. He loved fishing and trapping, cheering for the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Blue Jays, enjoying a good game of cards, playing the guitar and singing, camping, gardening, and wreath making. He rarely missed an opportunity to attend the sporting events and activities of his family, whom he supported with unwavering pride. Above all else, his most treasured joy in life was his family.
He was deeply involved in his community and faith. Arnold was a member of the New Germany Volunteer Fire Department, the LaHave River Salmon Association, the Lunenburg County Christmas Tree Association, and Trinity Lutheran Church where he sang in the choir. In each of these organizations, he served faithfully, often participating in committees and special projects. He lived by strong values of honesty, faith, commitment, integrity, hard work, and loyalty — values that guided both his actions and relationships.
