Obituary of Douglas Harris Wilneff

WILNEFF, Douglas Harris – Age 85, of Bridgewater, Lunenburg Co., passed away on Sunday, February 8, 2026, in South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater.

Born in Bridgewater, he was the son of the late Albert and Ruth (Oickle) Wilneff.

He retired after 15 years with Gow’s Home Hardware.  Over the course of his career, he was employed with Michelin Tire, the Town of Bridgewater Police Department, and was the owner of Mid Town Security Services, working as a private guard.  He was an active member of the Bridgewater United Church and Thrive 55+.

Doug is survived by his wife of 26 years, Sheila (Nowe); her children, Stephanie (John) Peskett of Porters Lake, and Jeffrey (Kelly) Lohnes of Calgary; and his grandchildren, Tyler, Mitchell, Parker and Jack. He will also be remembered by several nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers, Harold, Walter and Robert.

A Celebration of Life will be held 2 p.m., Friday, February 20, 2026, in Bridgewater United Church, 78 Hillcrest Street, Bridgewater, with Rev Neil McEwen officiating. A reception will follow the service in the Christian Education Centre of Bridgewater United Church. A private interment will take place in Brookside Cemetery, Bridgewater, at a later date. Family flowers only. Donations may be made to Bridgewater United Church or the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia.
