Obituary of Hartley Chipman Frank

 

FRANK, Hartley Chipman – passed away peacefully to be with his Lord, at the age of 99 in his home in Maplewood, Lunenburg Co., on Thursday, February 26, 2026. Born in Maplewood, he was a son of the late Willis Oran and Rhetty Regina (Wentzell) Frank.

Hartley was proud to have given over 35 years of dedicated service as the District Manager for Maritime Tel & Tel. Hartley was a veteran of the Second World War having served overseas. For many years, Hartley attended Parkdale-Maplewood Baptist Church, where he sang in the choir. Hartley was a faithful member of Hillcrest Masonic Lodge No. 93 A.F.& A.M., New Germany where he had served as Master, Chaplain and several other roles over his many years; Very Worshipful Bro. Hartley Frank also served as Grand Stewart for the Grand Lodge of Nova Scotia. Hartley loved music, and took every opportunity to pull his fiddle out and play a jig or reel or a sacred hymn; and also dedicated many years singing with the former New Germany & Area Men’s Choir. Although in his last number of years he was challenged with his vision, he never let that stop him from taking part in the things within the community that he always supported. His friendship was respected by so many, as Hartley had a way to always make you feel welcome wherever he was.

Surviving are his daughters, Sharon Frank, Upper Hainesville, NB; Dawn Frank, Maplewood; sons, H. Lionel Frank, Halifax; Eric Frank, Newburne; many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; his sister, Dara Best, Berwick; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his loving wife, Marjorie Alice (Flower) Frank; his son, Gary Frank; and siblings, Merva Hiltz, Vivian McGill, Althea Sarty, Ida Morse, Myrtle Bishop, twins in infancy, Iris and Inez; brothers, Robert and Wendell.

By personal request, there will be no visitation at the funeral home. Funeral service 1 p.m., Tuesday, March 3, 2026 in Emmanuel Baptist Church of Parkdale – Maplewood. Pastor Angela Stewart officiating. Private family interment will follow in Parkdale-Maplewood Community Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Parkdale-Maplewood Community Cemetery, Hillcrest Masonic Lodge #93 or a charity of choice.

Special thank you to Dad’s physician, Dr. LeBlanc-Martin and to his continuing care team of Remember When HealthCare – Bedford, that allowed Dad to live and die in the comfort of his home. We truly appreciate everyone who loved and supported Dad and his final wishes and throughout his long and fulfilling life.
