Obituary of Richard "Dick" Kirkpatrick Joyce

JOYCE, Richard “Dick” Kirkpatrick – Age 80, passed away peacefully at home in LaHave, NS, on Sunday March 8, 2026. Born in Halifax, Dick was the son of Hugh Kirkpatrick Joyce and Nancy Jane (Waters). He  was predeceased in 2008, by his wife Barbara Jean (Rowe). He is survived by and will be greatly missed by daughter, Tricia Brassington, Stourport on Severn, Worcestershire, England; brother, John, and sister-in-law, Janet, Maders Cove, NS; grandchildren, Sam and Eva Brassington, Stourport on Severn, England; partner, Carol Kenny, LaHave, NS;  nieces and nephews, Andrew, Michael and Richard Joyce, Duncan Rowe, Gillian McLean, Emily Rowe; great-nieces and nephews; and his best friend, Danny.

Dick grew up in Liverpool, NS, and Corner Brook, NL. He graduated from McGill University and University of Western Ontario - School of Business. Dick worked for Lundrigan’s Concrete, in Corner Brook, NL before moving to Atlantic Concrete, in Halifax, NS. After spending many years with Highliner Foods, in both Halifax and Lunenburg, Dick retired as Director of Information Services, in 2005. Dick was always very involved with the local community and devoted many hours to both chairing and serving on boards for the fire department, church, historical society, and regional health board. His favourite time of day was 4 o’clock rum spent with family and friends, especially at the family cottage, in Greenfield, with faithful Danny by his side.

Celebration of Life for Dick will be held 2 pm - 4 pm, Friday, July 31st, 2026, at LaHave and District Fire Hall, LaHave, NS. In lieu of flowers, it would be greatly appreciated by the family if memorial donations be made to the South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater, or the S.H.A.I.D. Tree Animal Shelter. Arrangements have been entrusted to Sweeny’s Funeral Home, Bridgewater.
