Donald Bruhm

Obituary of Donald Lee Bruhm

BRUHM, Donald Lee – Age 66, formerly a resident of Hillside Pines, Bridgewater, passed away peacefully at South Shore Regional Hospital on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, with his family by his side.

Born in Bridgewater March 19, 1959, he was the son of the late Percy Lee and Myrna Mae (Zwicker) Bruhm.

During his working years, Donald was employed with Bowater Mersey Paper Company at the Oakhill Sawmill.

Donald found joy in life’s simple pleasures. He loved going for drives in his Rav4 with his Mom and Dad and he was always happiest when he could stop and chat with familiar faces at the Bridgewater Plaza.

While living at Hillside Pines, Donald continued to fill his days with word searches, crossword puzzles and the many activities offered. He became a well-known and much-loved presence, earning the affectionate title of “Mayor” for his watchful eye on the comings and goings of staff and visitors. He always had a smile and a little piece of news or story to share, brightening the day of those around him.

Donald will be remembered for his friendly nature, his curiosity about the world around him and the way he made everyday moments a little brighter for those who knew him.

He will be lovingly remembered by his sisters, Donna (Greg) Knox and Doreen McCarthy (Vaughn Robar); his brother, Dale Bruhm (Cathy Via); his nieces and a nephew, Ryan (Breanne Barkhouse) McCarthy, Laura (Ryleigh Theriau) McCarthy, Carly (Ryan Forward) Knox, Jenna Knox, and Grace (Ben Baxter) Bruhm; and his great nieces and nephews, Oaklyn and Maverick McCarthy, Landon Theriau, Mason and Madison Forward.

Besides his parents, Donald was predeceased by his wife, Johanne Marie (Levy) Bruhm.

The family would like to express their sincere thanks to Hillside Pines for the exceptional care given to Donald, making it feel like home surrounded by extended family. We are also deeply grateful to the Emergency and ICU teams at South Shore Regional Hospital for their compassion and support.

By request there will be no visitation. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, March 26, 2026, at Sweeny’s Funeral Home, 35 York Street, Bridgewater with Rev. Willis Ott officiating. A reception will follow at the funeral home.

Family flowers only please. Donations in Donald’s memory may be made to Hillside Pines or a charity of choice.
