Julia MacDonald

Obituary of Julia MacDonald

It is with great sadness that the family of D. Julia MacDonald (“Julie”) announces her passing on April 29, 2026, in Halifax at the age of 93. Born in Bridgewater, Nova Scotia, in 1932, she was the daughter of the late Earl and Margaret (Freeman) Morgan. She spent most of her life in Halifax and Bedford, where she built a full and memorable life centred around family, friendship, and home.

Julie was spirited, artistic, and unforgettable—a woman who left a lasting impression on everyone she met. She loved entertaining and surrounded herself with plants, beauty, family, and, over the years, many beloved dogs named Maggie. Known for her amazing strawberry jam, hearty breakfasts of bacon and eggs, and her generous nature, she created traditions and memories her family will carry forward for generations. She deeply loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and brought humour and personality into every room she entered. Like many remarkable people, she could be both generous and difficult, but she lived fully and truly cast a large wake in the lives of those who knew her.

She is survived by her son, Condon; daughter, Nan (Jack); grandchildren Joe (Donna), Christina (Daniel), Steven (Shannon), Evan, Abbey, and Greg; and great-grandchildren Peyton, Odin, Evelyn, Aberdeen, Archer, Griffin, and Benedita. She also leaves behind several nieces and nephews, as well as her wonderful friend Kerry Snow of Fall River.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her son, Shawn; her first husband, Condon MacDonald; her longtime partner, W.L. “Mick” Ryan; sisters Katherine Manley, Anne Douglas, Frances Mailman, Madelyn Delaney and Ellen Robart; and brother, Robert Morgan.

Cremation has taken place. No service will be held at this time. Burial will take place in Brookside Cemetery, Bridgewater, at a later date.
