Obituary of Garnet Morley MacDonald

It is with great sadness that the family of Garnet MacDonald announce his passing on October 15, 2025, at the age of 77.

Garnet was born on August 14, 1948, in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan. He was predeceased by his parents, Leona and Peter MacDonald; his brother, Brian; and brother-in-law, Brian Calhoun.

Garnet spent many years working in the Alberta oilfields, where he earned the respect of his peers as a hardworking, principled, and fair man. He took great pride in his work and the life he built for his family.

In 2012, Garnet and his beloved wife, Nancy, relocated to LaHave, Nova Scotia, where they made their home overlooking the river. Together, they graciously hosted many family celebrations and gatherings filled with laughter, friendship, and good conversation.

Garnet will be remembered for his unwavering kindness and willingness to help anyone in need. At his core, he was a gentle, funny, and deeply caring husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He was well known for his quick wit, one-liners, and ability to spin a good yarn that could keep everyone entertained.

One of Garnet’s lifelong passions was buying and selling vehicles. What began as a hobby became part of his identity, with the number of vehicles he bought and sold over the years reaching well into the hundreds. Nancy often tried to rein him in — usually without much success. Garnet loved sharing his knowledge and took particular joy in helping younger family members find reliable first vehicles. He was always willing to lend a hand, offer advice, or help solve a problem.

Nancy and Garnet shared many passions throughout their life together. They were proud season ticket holders for the Edmonton Eskimos (now the Edmonton Elks) and spent many enjoyable hours cheering on the Edmonton Oilers, watching curling, and following the Toronto Blue Jays. Together, they loved travelling in their RV, exploring the beauty of the East Coast, and spending time with dear friends.

Garnet is lovingly remembered by his son, Brian (Deana), and daughter, Leona (Chris); grandchildren Tristan and Jayden; brother Randy (Pat); sister Leslie; and many extended family members and friends. He was also deeply cherished by his best friend, Anthony Cook.

His beloved wife, Nancy, passed away six months after his passing. Together again, they will be remembered always with love.
