Obituary of Nancy Ann MacDonald
It is with great sadness that the family of Nancy MacDonald (née Robinson) announce her passing on April 3, 2026.
Nancy passed away peacefully at her home in LaHave at the age of 74, following a difficult year of health challenges. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Garnet MacDonald; her brother, Kent Robinson; and her parents, Thelma and Jack Robinson.
Born in Halifax on March 30, 1952, Nancy attended The Convent of the Sacred Heart before continuing her education at Saint Mary’s University, where she earned both a Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Education. Following graduation, she accepted a teaching position in Widewater, Slave Lake, Alberta, where she met the love of her life, Garnet MacDonald. They were married on December 31, 1989, and together built a life centered around family, friendship, and community while raising their children, Brian and Leona. Throughout the years, the family relocated several times for Garnet’s work before eventually settling back in Widewater, where Nancy became Vice Principal at CJ Schurter School.
Following retirement, Nancy and Garnet returned to Nova Scotia, settling in LaHave in 2012, where they enjoyed hosting family gatherings and spending time with dear friends.
Nancy lived courageously with rheumatoid arthritis from a young age. After returning to Nova Scotia, she became involved with Elderfit and its exercise swim program, which brought her both strength and community. Always eager to help others, Nancy joined the Elderfit Board of Directors in 2013 and later served as Secretary-Treasurer. Her kindness, calm nature, and generosity left a lasting impact on the entire Elderfit family.
Nancy was also a dedicated auxiliary member at Fishermen’s Memorial Hospital in Lunenburg and generously volunteered her time within the community.
Nancy and Garnet shared many passions throughout their life together. While living in Edmonton, they were proud season ticket holders for the Edmonton Eskimos (now the Edmonton Elks) and avid fans of the Edmonton Oilers, curling, and the Toronto Blue Jays. They also treasured road trips in their RV and the many friendships made along the way.
Nancy is lovingly remembered by her son, Brian (Deana), and daughter, Leona (Chris); her sisters, Linda (Brian), Jackie, and Marcy; sister-in-law Sue Robinson; and her cherished grandchildren, Tristan and Jayden. She also leaves behind 13 nieces and nephews, many great-nieces and great-nephews, one great-great-niece, and countless friends whose lives were touched by her warmth and generosity.
The family wishes to extend heartfelt thanks to the staff of South Shore Regional Hospital, especially Dr. Chaisson, as well as the staff at Fishermen’s Memorial Hospital, for their compassionate care and support.
