Obituary of Corrine Mertys Zinck

Corrine Mertys Zinck of Bridgewater, Nova Scotia, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 20, 2026, in Chester, leaving behind a legacy of love, resilience, and deep commitment to her family and community.

Born on October 22, 1946, in Bridgewater, Corrine was the only child of Leaman and Olive (Crouse) Zwicker. She grew up in Wileville and attended the local one-, two-, and three-room school before graduating from Hebbville Consolidated High School in 1964. During her youth, Corrine was actively involved in 4-H, Brownies, and Girl Guides, and spent much of her time at Bridgewater United Church, where she participated in Sunday School and youth programs.

Corrine went on to attend Mount Allison University in Sackville, New Brunswick, where she studied Home Economics, graduating in 1967. She continued her education at the Halifax Infirmary, focusing on dietetics and nutrition, and in 1968 became the first dietitian at Dawson Memorial Hospital in Bridgewater.

Later that year, Corrine met Ralph Zinck on a blind date, and they were married in 1970. Together they built a loving home and raised their two daughters, Charlotte and Diane. Corrine devoted many years to her family, supporting her children and creating a warm, welcoming home filled with love, creativity, and care.

A dedicated volunteer, Corrine gave generously of her time to her community. She volunteered at Newcombville Elementary School, taught Sunday School, and served as a Brownie and 4-H leader. Within her church community, she held leadership roles including Elder, Clerk of Session, and Chair of the Official Board.

Family life was central to Corrine’s happiness. She and her family shared a love of camping and travel, exploring Canada, the US, and beyond over the years and creating many cherished memories together. In 1987, Corrine returned to the workforce, beginning with Family and Children’s Services before becoming Executive Director of Lunenburg Home Support, a position she held for fifteen years. She later worked with the Department of Health Continuing Care as Administrative Coordinator for Western Nova Scotia until her retirement in 2005. Even in retirement, Corrine remained active, working from home doing bookkeeping and continuing to pursue her passion for knitting, sewing, and crafting. She lovingly created countless handmade items and sewed both of her daughters’ wedding dresses, demonstrating her remarkable talent and attention to detail.

Corrine faced life’s challenges with strength and grace, including a courageous battle with breast cancer, ongoing pancreatic complications, and a stroke in 2022. Following the passing of her husband Ralph in 2012, she remained independent in her home for many years. In 2023, she moved to Ridgewood Assistive Living, and in 2026 finally to Shoreham Village. She was known for her warm smile and kind greetings, bringing light to those around her.

She will be lovingly remembered by her daughters, Charlotte (Alden) Raymundo and Diane (Kirk) Barry; and her cherished grandchildren, Justin and Olivia Raymundo, Grace and Anna Barry, step grandson, Evan Raymundo, along with extended family and friends.

A service will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, July 3, 2026, at Bridgewater United Church, 87 Hillcrest Street, Bridgewater, Rev. Neil McEwen officiating; a reception will follow in the gymnasium. Private interment will be in Newcombville Cemetery, Newcombville at a later date.

Corrine’s life was a testament to kindness, dedication, and quiet strength. She will be deeply missed and fondly remembered.
