Obituary of John Howard Ferguson

 

We are saddened to announce the passing of John Howard Ferguson, age 89, on June 21, 2026, at the South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater, Nova Scotia after a short illness. Born in Glace Bay, Nova Scotia on September 20, 1936, to parents J. Howard and Viola (Baird) Ferguson.

Howard was a graduate of the Ontario College of Art and Design in Toronto and was prolific in all phases of design including product and interior design. Following his graduation, while employed with Dudas Kuypers Rowan, he was responsible for exhibit design at Expo 67.

Upon returning to Nova Scotia, Howard was employed as Chief Designer for Maritime Provinces for Simpson’s contract division. He later established Luft Designs, carrying forward his work in industrial design.

Howard was also an avid downhill skier, canoer, fly fisherman and enjoyed the natural beauty of Nova Scotia.

He leaves to grieve his wife Elizabeth Cuddihy KC, her siblings and the extended Cuddihy family, his son from his first marriage, Jay Ferguson, member of Sloan, his partner, Aly Vitunski and the extended Ferguson family.
