Douglas Alexander Nelson (Dougie)

February 1, 1937 – July 18, 2026

Douglas "Dougie" Alexander Nelson - passed away peacefully at age 89 on Saturday, July 18, 2026 at Rosedale Home for Special Care, New Germany, NS, where he was loved for teasing the staff and nurses and for watching the birds at his window. The squirrels, not so much.

A proud veteran, Doug retired from the Royal Canadian Air Force. In retirement he stayed active with curling, hunting with his dogs, skeet shooting, watching football, and golf. And if you asked where Doug was, chances are he was in the woods looking for golf balls. If there was music playing you could bet Doug would be tapping his foot or getting up for a dance.

He was predeceased by his wives, Sharon and Elizabeth; and his brother. Herb Nelson.

Doug leaves to cherish his memory: children David Abbott (Marie), Kimberly Martin (Dan), Sandi Hodder (Rick), and Theresa Leboeuf; sister-in-law, Inez Nelson; 6 grandchildren; and 5 great-grandchildren.

By personal request, there will be no services. In lieu of flowers, donations to Rosedale Home for Special Care, New Germany would be appreciated by the family.
