Obituary of Elizabeth Irene Getson

GETSON, Elizabeth “Betty” Irene – Age 95, Wileville, Lunenburg Co., passed away peacefully on Monday, August 3, 2026 in the South Shore Hospice Centre, Lunenburg. Born March 31, 1931, she was a daughter of the late Robie William and Letha Angeline (Whynot) Connolly. 

Betty was best known for her 30 plus years owning and operating B&L Grocery in Lahave with her husband. Her gentle kindness left a lasting mark on all who knew her.  She always put the needs of others before her own with a quiet steady grace.  

Betty was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Surviving are her children, Janice Wamback, Wileville; Martha (Eric) Dolliver, Blockhouse; Richard “Ricky” Getson, Petite Riviere; William “Billy” (Ella Mae) Getson, Pleasantville; grandchildren, Laura, Rebecca; Jeremy, Vanessa, Jared, Nigel; Jonathan, Andrew; Elizabeth, Marcus; great-grandchildren, Lucy, Clara, Eli; Parker, Antoine; Riley, Charli and Nel; and many nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Lowell LeRoy Getson; son-in-law, Wade Wamback; sisters, Elsie Wolfe, Kathleen Sprague, Shirley Brown and Rosabelle Whitfield; brothers, Lione, William, both James and Donald in infancy.

Visitation will be held 6-8 p.m., Friday, August 14, in Sweeny’s Funeral Home, 35 York Street, Bridgewater. Public graveside memorial service will be held 10:30 a.m., Saturday, August 15, 2026, in Fort Point Cemetery, LaHave. Rev. Willis Ott officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to South Shore Hospice Palliative Care Society.
