Obituary of Dianne Louise Hone

HONE, Dianne Louise (Lee) – Chester, Lunenburg Co., died Thursday, August 6, 2026, in Shoreham Village Nursing Home, where she had been residing. Born July 27, 1942, at the Ideal Maternity Home in East Chester, as a “Butter Box Baby”, where she was raised by her parents, the late Clifford Lawrence and Leola Marion (Hiltz) Lee, both formerly of Chester.

After finishing grade 11, she taught school on Tancook Island in a small multi grade school- house. One night, while attending a dance in Western Shore, she met her future husband, Myrlin “Mike” Edmund Hone. They were married on April 27, 1963. Being a Navy wife, she was independent and strong, where she went on to work at numerous banks. Over the years, she moved with Mike for his Navy career, from Chester, Nova Scotia to Edmonton, Alberta, Quebec City, Saint John New Brunswick and finally to Bridgewater. 

Dianne was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, branch 24, Bridgewater; where she also volunteered with the Legion Auxiliary. She was a member of Holy Trinity Anglican Church where she was involved in many aspects of church life. She was a dedicated volunteer with the Palliative care services of the South Shore. Her volunteerism continued where she initiated a chapter of TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly), as well as the North American Chronic Pain Association of Canada “NACPAC”. Outside of volunteer work, she loved to spend her time sewing, crocheting, baking, and gardening.

She was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother who all deeply cherished her. Surviving is her loving husband, Mike Hone, Bridgewater; daughters, Kathy Hone, Bridgewater; Sheri Hone-Croft, Oshawa, Ont.; grandsons, Matthew Croft, Marriott's Cove, Joshua (Jasmine) Croft, Oshawa, Ont.; brother, Robert (Anne) Lee, Chester; niece, Bonnie (Jeffrey, Merren, Zoey) Russell, Hardwood Lands.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her sister, Marion Lee, formerly of Chester; brothers-in-law, Norman Hone, formerly of Medicine Hatt, Alb., and Larry Hone, formerly of Wetaskiwin, Alb.; mother-in-law, Dorothy Hone, formerly of Wetaskiwin, Alb.

There will be no visitation at the funeral home by request. Service in Loving Remembrance will be held 2 p.m., Friday, August 28, in Holy Trinity Anglican Church, 68 Alexandra Avenue, Bridgewater, with Rev. Simon Davies officiating. Private family burial will take place at a later date in St. Stephen Anglican Church Cemetery, Chester. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia or Canadian Cancer Society.
