Obituary of Ronald Alan Fletcher

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Ronald Alan Fletcher, on the morning of Monday, August 10, 2026, following a lengthy struggle with dementia.

Ron was the son of Maurice Fletcher and Florence (Weaver) Fletcher and grew up in Hamilton, Ontario. He went on to build a successful career as an actuary before moving with his family to Halifax, Nova Scotia, where he made his home and raised his family.

Ron is survived by his two children, Richard (Kristen) and Amy (Kirk), and his beloved grandson, Fletcher.

He was predeceased by his wife, Joanne Fletcher (Byrne), with whom he shared many wonderful years.

Ron was also a devoted stepfather to Joanne’s children, Seamus (Riley), Bridget (Paul and Keira), and D’Arcy, and a step-grandfather to Riley, Keira, D’Arcy, Gryphon, and L’Wren. He will also be lovingly remembered by his brother, Bill (nephews Ryan Fletcher and Todd Fletcher), and his sister, Betty Ann Caskie (nephew Ian Caskie), along with his extended family and many friends.

Ron lived a full, active, and adventurous life. He was a dedicated marathon runner, an avid golfer, and an enthusiastic traveller. Of all the things Ron enjoyed, golf was probably his greatest love. He embraced the game with a passion, enjoying not only the challenge but also the friendships, conversation, competition, and countless hours spent on the course. Golf was a constant and much-loved part of Ron’s life.

After retiring, Ron and Joanne looked forward each year to travelling to New Zealand, a country they came to love. Their annual trips became a cherished tradition, giving them the opportunity to explore, experience new places, and enjoy many memorable adventures together.

Ron will be remembered for his intelligence and dedication throughout his career, his love of an active life, his adventurous spirit, and especially his love of golf. Most of all, he will be remembered as a husband, father, stepfather, grandfather, brother, and friend who was deeply loved by his family.

While his final years were made difficult by dementia, Ron’s family will hold close the memories of the many years before the disease took so much from him—the marathon runs, the rounds of golf, the travels with Joanne, and the time spent with the people he loved.

Ron will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him.
