Obituary of John Barry

John Harold Barry 86, of Maitland, Lunenburg County, passed away September 4, 2006, at the South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater. Born in Maitland, he was a son of the late Winfred and Stella (Oickle) Barry. Throughout the years, John has touched the lives of many people. He will be greatly missed and remembered for his service to the community. John served in the Royal Canadian Army, stationed in the Halifax area from 1939 to 1944. He joined National Sea Products in 1945 and was plant electrician until leaving in 1963. He joined Dover Flour in charge of maintenance until his retirement in 1990. He will be sadly missed by his son, Dennis and common law wife, Detta Alderdice, Dartmouth; grandsons, Scott (Rachel); Craig(common law wife, Stephanie Mailman); Andrew (Chrissy); 4 great grandchildren, all in the Dartmouth area; sisters, Jean Nauss, Herring Cove; Pearl Jodrey, Bridgewater; brothers, Donald, Blockhouse; George, Toronto. He was predeceased by his wife of 51 years, Merle Blanche (Garrison); sisters, Phyllis Meisner, Shirley Crossland; brothers, Ivan, Raymond. A memorial service will be held 2pm Friday, September 8, in Sweeny’s Funeral Chapel, Bridgewater, Rev. Ian Wissler officiating. A reception will follow the service in the Maitland Community Center (across the road from the Christ Anglican Church). Burial will take place in Christ Anglican Cemetery, Maitland, at a later date. There will be no visitation at the funeral home by request. No flowers by request. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Canadian Cancer Society or the charity of your choice.
