Obituary of Avernia Bushen

Avernia Dorthy Bushen 85, Bridgewater, NS passed away peacefully on December 24, 2006, in the South Shore Regional Hospital with her family by her side. Born in West LaHave she was the daughter of the late Josiah and Winnie (Richard) Pernette. Avernia attended school in Pentz, was active in the Girl Guides and later worked at the Creaser Clothing Factory at LaHave. Following her marriage to Lemuel, in 1943, she lived in West Dublin. They moved to Liverpool in 1957 and finally to Bridgewater where she still resided. She was a member of the West Dublin United Church and a long time member of the UCW. Avernia had many interests which included keeping scrapbooks for over sixty-five years. She was an avid reader and letter writer. She never forgot cards for her many special friends and family members. Other interests included feeding birds and her cat. She managed to stay sharp by journal writing every day and enjoyed solving the Lexicon. Affectionately known to neighbourhood kids as the “Cookie Lady,” Avernia was usually in high production with lots of treats for family and friends. She certainly enjoyed driving her car and living in her own home. She was a dedicated stay at home mom, and devoted wife for over fifty-three years. She is survived by son David (Lorna), Little River Cumberland Co.; grandson Gregory (Crystal), Westchester Station; grandson John (Aleshia), Amherst; granddaughter Ann (Brett) Cameron, Miramichi, NB; and three special great-grand children, Josiah, Jasper and Maddison; sisters, Helena Routledge, Halifax; Yvonne Haughn, West LaHave; brothers, Percy (Ruth) and Donald of West LaHave and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Lemuel; sister, Katherine Haughn; brothers Harry and John. Visitation will be Thursday December 28th from 12:30-2:00pm in the West Side United Church, Pentz, followed by the funeral service at 2pm with Rev. Neil McEwen officiating. Internment will be in the Brookside Cemetery, West Dublin. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Sweeny’s Funeral Home, Bridgewater, NS. Memorial donations may be made to the LaHave United Pastoral Charge or a charity of your choice. On-line condolences to: www.sweenysfuneralhome.com
