Obituary of Lawrence Everette O'Neil

of Lawrence Everette "Larry" O'Neil O’Neil, Lawrence Everette “Larry”, 93, of Bridgewater passed away peacefully, June 22, 2008 at the South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater with his family by his side. Born in Bridgewater, he was a son of the late David and Hazel (Corkum) O’Neil. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He was a member of Acacia Lodge # 39; former member of the Bridgewater Kinsmen Club and Bridgewater Fire Department. He was long time member of the Bridgewater Curling Club, Bridgewater Tennis Club, Old Towne Golf Club; past commodore of the LaHave River Yacht Club. He served 3 terms on Bridgewater Town Council with one term serving as deputy mayor. He was an active member of Holy Trinity Anglican Church serving on Parish Council and as Sunday School Superintendant. He was a well respected businessman, community leader and volunteer. He owned and operated Bridgewater Laundry and Drycleaners for many years. Together with his brother Bert, they opened Bridgewater’s first super market known as the Shamrock Store. He was a founding partner in Goodwear Treaders in Bridgewater. He is survived by his wife, the former Erna Dauphinee; daughter, Nikki (Roland) Canning, Sydney; son, Charles (Alayne MacDonald), Halifax. He was a gentle and loving granddaddy whose sense of humor was cherished by grandchildren, Amy Bates, Suzanne Chipp, Keegan O’Neil and Adrienne O’Neil; great grandchildren, Madeline and Meghan Bates and Aaron Chipp. He was predeceased by his brother Bert and sister Maxine. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 2 to 4pm in Sweeny’s Funeral Home, Bridgewater with a Masonic Lodge Service being held at 7pm. Funeral service will be held 2pm Wednesday in Holy Trinity Anglican Church, Bridgewater, Rev Ron Appleton officiating. Burial will follow in the Brookside Cemetery, Bridgewater. Family flowers only.
