Obituary of Vivian Ruth Corkum

Vivian Ruth Corkum (Wamback) New Cumberland. With Sadness I announce the passing of Vivian Ruth (Wamback) Corkum, New Cumberland, Lunenburg County, NS on June 30, 2009 at the South Shore Regional Hospital. Vivian was the daughter of the late Walter ‘James’ and Alice ‘May” (Corkum) Wamback of Mount Pleasant, Lunenburg County, NS. Vivian graduated from the Provincial Normal College, Truro, NS teaching in various locations across the province and upgrading her license by attending summer school and night courses from Acadia, Dalhousie and Saint Mary’s Universities. Up until her retirement Vivian was on the Nova Scotia Teachers’ Union Mathematics Executive for the province of Nova Scotia. Following her retirement Vivian enjoyed doing Genealogy and volunteered at the South Shore Genealogy Society and Fort Point museum. Her passion took Vivian on three trips to Germany researching her roots as well numerous friends worldwide who enjoyed the same interest. Vivian was a member of the Bridgewater United Church of Canada. Vivian is survived by son Peter Corkum, grandson Seth Corkum and brother Clayton (Erma) Wamback. Vivian will be fondly remembered by close friendships with Bridgett Morgan, Susan Russell, Arlene Bailey and Edith Berrigan who were there for her when she needed them. She was predeceased by her husband Frank Peter Corkum of New Cumberland; sisters Mildred (Stephen) Wamback Constandy and Emily (Arnold) (Elmer) Wamback Strum Dorey. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, July 4, 2009 in the New Cumberland Cemetery. The Reverend Ivan Norton officiating. No flowers please at the request of the family. Memorial donations may be made to the Heart & Stroke Association or charity of choice. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Sweeny’s Funeral Home, Bridgewater.
