Obituary of Keith Arnold Veinot

VEINOT, Keith Arnold – Age 75, Branch LaHave, Lunenburg Co., passed away on Saturday, March 9, 2024 in South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater with his family by his side. Born October 8, 1948 in Bridgewater, he was a son of the late Clarence Lapean and Florence Isabel (Oickle) Veinot.

Keith grew up in the West Northfield area. He spent his early years as a father working and living in Cape Breton before settling in Chester Basin until he neared retirement. Then, he and Sandie built a house on a branch of the Lahave River, returning “home” for retirement.  His professional career spanned 31 years with Fisheries and Oceans Canada where he started out as a Fisheries Officer, but gradually worked his way up the ranks and retired as Chief of Enforcement for the Maritime Region in 2005. His grandchildren liked to refer to him as a “fish-saver”.

He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Sandra “Sandie” (Sleep) Veinot, Branch LaHave; daughter, Errin (Evan) Monahan and grandchildren, Quinn and Imogen, all of Branch LaHave; brother, Philip (Donna) Veinot, Chester Basin; niece, Jennifer Beresford and nephew, Christopher Veinot; brother-in-law Gerald Caron, Ottawa; nephew, Andre, and niece, Jeanette, and niece, Nicole.

In his life he was passionate about fishing, being outdoors, and his family. He loved boating, being in the woods, and the family cottage–all places where he and his family had great adventures and built amazing memories. He will always be remembered for his patience and kindness.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by a sister, Marilyn Caron.

There will be no visitation at the funeral home by request. A Service to Celebrate the Life of Keith will be held 2 p.m., Wednesday, March 20, 2024 in St. Andrew’s Anglican Church, West Northfield, with Rev. Catherine Robar officiating. A private family interment will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery, West Northfield.
