Obituary of Sharon Mildred Fancy

FANCY, Sharon Mildred - It is with heartfelt sadness, we announce the peaceful passing of our wonderful mother and dear friend to so many. Age 72, on March 7, 2017, Sharon passed away in Bridgewater, NS, with her loving son and daughter at her side. Sharon gracefully fought a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer’s. Born on July 10, 1944 in Middleton, she was a daughter of the late Carl William (Pleasant River) and Mary Eliza (Marshall) Fancy (Middleton). Left with loving and cherished memories are her daughter, Tiffaney (Durling) Arnold, Quispamsis, N.B. and son, Todd Durling, Bridgewater; son-in-law, Jason Arnold; and adored grandchildren, Ava and Owen. Also grieving her passing are many beloved extended family members, friends, co-workers and caregivers. The blessed gift of Sharon's deep, unwavering love for her family did not go unnoticed; nor was the depth of love that was returned to Sharon by her loved ones. Sharon was a compassionate and dedicated nurse, graduating from the Victoria General Hospital School of Nursing (Class of 1965 B). Sharon will be greatly missed and remembered for her infectious, bright smile, loving ways, caring nature and sparkling personality. She was everybody’s cheerleader and had boundless energy to always help in any way she could. Over the years, in addition to nursing, her community involvement extended to various school committees, hospital auxiliary, Dawson Daisy and Kinettes. Among her many passions were Sharon’s love for her family, friends, laughter and entertaining; everyone was always welcome in her home. Her home-cooked meals and pies were famous, and always prepared with love. For Sharon, her home was an oasis for any occasion, but mostly for celebration. She was well known for her wonderful sense of style, and loved planning get-togethers with her girlfriends to shop and lunch, enjoying those days to the fullest. At Christmas time, many women would look forward to the party that Sharon and Joy Bird, her life-long, special friend and ‘sister’, would host. It was an opportunity for busy friends to gather, re-connect and share in the spirit of friendship. Sharon loved to travel, and her spirit of adventure took her on many trips away with family and friends. The beach was her second home where she could be found soaking up the sun or splashing in the waves. All who knew Sharon knows that this was one of her happiest places. We will always remember the sound of her infectious laughter being carried along on the warm, salty breezes. Sharon often joked that she was a slave to her garden, but it was truly a labour of love. Pretty flowers in pinks and blues, her favourite colours, adorned her property and home. In recent years, since July 2014, Sharon’s journey led to her to reside at Hillside Pines Home for Special Care. She received the best of care from loving and compassionate staff who all treated Sharon with the respect and dignity she deserved. For this we are eternally thankful. In keeping with her wishes, cremation has taken place under the direction of Sweeny’s Funeral Home, Bridgewater. There will be no visitation by request. Memorial service will be held 11 a.m., Saturday, March 11, in Holy Trinity Anglican Church, Bridgewater. Rev. Simon Davies officiating. Private family interment will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Sharon may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society of Nova Scotia, South Shore Regional Hospital, Fisherman’s Memorial Hospital, Hillside Pines Home for Special Care or a charity of choice.
