Obituary of "Peggy" Margaret Adelaide Newman

NEWMAN, "Peggy" Margaret Adelaide - Age 96, Lunenburg, passed away on Thursday, March 9, 2017 in Harbour View Haven Home for Special Care, Lunenburg. Born December 10, 1920 in Port Hastings, she was the daughter of the late Sadie (MacDonald) and John MacDougall. She was a long-time member of St. Stephen Roman Catholic Church, Halifax. Peg was one-of-a kind, a down-to-earth woman, with a quirky sense of humour and an abiding kindness; the ever present sardonic wit of a true Cape Bretoner. Peg was always up for a challenge, an adventure; ready and willing to try new things. She participated fully in the life around her, embraced it; she loved the outdoors, walking, checking out her neighbourhood, digging in the earth, watching her garden grow. Peg was a hard worker, ready and willing to lend a hand; she jumped in, no hesitation. She loved all creatures, there was not a dog or cat she encountered in her neighborhood walks that she did not stop to pet and carry on a conversation. She doted on her beloved companion, her cat Lily. Surviving are her son, Patrick (Carol), Toronto, her daughter-in-law, Wanda Kushner, Bridgewater, grandson, Jake (Melissa), great-grandson, Griffin. She was predeceased by her husband, Ralph Newman; son, Blaine (Alfie) Newman; brothers, John, Charlie, Angus, Alistair, Roddie, and sister, Charlotte. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Sweeny's Funeral Home, Bridgewater. Funeral mass will be held 11 A.M., Thursday, April 6 2017 in Saint Mother Teresa Parish (St. Stephen's), 6032 Normandy Drive, Halifax. No flowers by request, memorial donations may be made in Peg's name to SHAID Animal Shelter, Lunenburg County. The family would like to thank the nursing and care staff of Harbour View Haven for the wonderful care and support they provided Peg.
