Obituary of Catherine Martin
MARTIN (Fulton), Nora Catherine (1922-2017) - passed away peacefully in the South Shore Regional Hospital in Bridgewater Nova Scotia on May 1, 2017 in her 95th year. She was a beautiful, gentle, unselfish person whose life was full of kindness and consideration to all her family and friends. She was the daughter of the late Howard and Mary (Foster) Fulton of Chesterville Ontario. She was predeceased by her daughter, Elizabeth Anne in 2009 and husband, John Lynton in 2015; sisters, Jean (Mrs. Hubert Dixon) of Niagara Falls, Anne (Mrs. Jim Sullivan) of Chesterville; her brothers, William and Jack of Chesterville, Ontario, Donald of Kingston, Ontario and Foster Fulton of Cleveland Tennessee, USA. She is survived by her sisters-in-law, Shirley Fulton of Chesterville and Elsie Martin (McCorry) of Dartmouth.
She was the loved mother of Jim (James Laurin) and his wife Cecilia (Zoe) of Yellowknife, NWT, and grandmother to grandchildren, Tawnya Tourangeau, Robin and Jesse Martin, Martina Chocolate and Timothy, Catherine and Joseph Zoe-Martin, Jennifer Morgan and Jackie Shimmin; great grandchildren, Madison and Pipher Tourangeau, Mary, Jayden and James Chocolate, Jaime Lynn Zoe-Martin, Kaitlyn and Andrew Morgan, Jackson, Jenma, Chloe and Libby Shimmin.
Catherine graduated from MacDonald College of McGill University in Montreal PQ in 1945 with a Bachelor of Science degree and was employed in the Merck Penicillin Laboratory in Montreal. She married Lynton Martin in 1947, and they were lovingly devoted to each other for 68 years, first living in Voglers Cove, Nova Scotia where they operated the Woodlands Biological Laboratory, and then Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario and Halifax Nova Scotia. In Halifax, Catherine taught at the Mount Saint Vincent Academy and was active in the University Women’s Club, the Home Economics Association of Nova Scotia, and the Auxiliary of the Children’s Hospital. She retired to a home built with her husband in Buckfield, Queens County, Nova Scotia in 1983. She was an active member and volunteer in her community and happiest working as an artist and craftsperson and gardener, while watching the many birds and wild animals that regularly visited her yard. During the last two years of her life, her granddaughter Catherine Rose and great-granddaughter moved to Buckfield from Yellowknife to care for her and Lynton.
A private memorial service will be held on July 11, 2017 in Brookside Cemetery, Bridgewater. No flowers please, donations may be made to environmental and nature charities of choice.
