I am really sorry to hear of your loss with John's passing. I only had the opportunity to meet John casually on several occasions and could quickly determine that John had was a man of few words but when he gave his opinion it was based on his own experience and all available information. He was a member of the Lunenburg County Christmas Tree Producers Association (LCCTPA) for many years and his participation will be missed. My condolences to the family, may you feel the presence of the Lord as you struggle with the void left with John's passing. President of the LCCTPA

My sincere condolences to Aunt Rosemary, Cousins Joanne, Stephen, Jill, Karen, Janet and their families. Uncle John is a special man in every sense of the word and my thoughts are with you during this difficult time. I wanted to share a couple of special moments with you that are very fresh in my memory and that of my family.
As a young boy we often visited my Grandparents home and John was there almost everyday doing the things he no doubt loved, working on the farm and woodlot. This for me, a young boy not raised on a farm appeared to be a magical life with days of working with the land and animals. Tractors, chainsaws and farm equipment were to me back then like computers and iPhones are to todays youth. When I was finally old enough to go stay on the Parkdale farm on my own for a couple of weeks during the summer school break I jumped at the chance. John would patiently take me with him where ever he went and what ever activity was on each day. I would listen intently to every word John would say in response to my many questions about farming (and we all know that each word John said was important and carefully considered). I also marvelled at his strength and skill watching him fire 50lb bales of hay 20ft up to the top of the hay wagon and making quick work of a log with his crosscut saw.
These experiences and others shaped my love of agriculture and this as my eventual career choice. Even in speaking with my daughter last evening, telling her the news regarding a great uncle she met only twice, she said "oh you mean that kind man that showed me the kittens". I said yes that is him - he is also the one that used to love to show me how the electric fence worked! A keen sense of humour was also an Uncle John trait.
Uncle John I will miss you but I have my memories that will stay with me a lifetime. To your family - they will have many many more memories and my hope is that these memories will provide comfort until the sadness passes.

Dear Rosemary and Family, We were shocked to read John's Obituary to day. Only on the 6th. of July we drove by the farm in Parkdale and spoke of all the times we loaded up hay at the old barn down across the road. We enjoyed talking to John about farming and other things. The old farm looked so neat as we passed by, just the way he always kept it.
You will have so many great family memories of you folks and John that will help you heal and please open your Bible to John 5:28,29 and read about the Resurrection awaiting your precious loved one, John. We send all our love at this time to Rosemary and her complete family, Sincerely, Del & Mary

We were very sorry to hear of "Uncle Johnny's" passing, and send our sincerest condolences to the entire extended Rafuse family.
No matter when or where we traveled afar, if we saw a Christmas tree labeled from Nova Scotia, we'd stop and take a look to see if it might be one of John's. It's a habit, so we'll still look and think of Uncle Johnny every time we see a Nova Scotia Christmas tree for the rest of our lives.
We'll dearly miss our Parkdale farm visits and John's generous beaming smile (a matchless reward for our sometimes clumsy attempt to evoke it). And we'll never shed our lifelong admiration for quiet, patient and straight-honest Uncle Johnny.
You are in our thoughts & prayers at this most difficult time.
