George has made the final trip home. As all Scouters, he has gone to the final campfire.I served Scouting many years with George and they were always enjoyable. George had the movement in his heart and many times saved our bacon, as it were with his knowledge and wisdom.
There have been many comments on the WWW from former members of our troop. They all feel the same loss.
My condolences to the family and many friends.
George, Until we meet again.

My deepest condolences to Ruth and family. I first met George around 1967 when he showed up a scout meeting at 2nd Bridgewater when we were in desperate need of a leader. Over the next few years I felt privileged to accompany him and one or two other scouts on a few timber cruising trips both on and off snowshoes. We learned much from George, the ever patient teacher. I also served for a short time with him in the Bridgewater Fire Department. I will always remember how to tie a bowline around my waist with one hand! We are all the better for having known him. God bless you all as your mourn his passing and give thanks for his life among you.

My thoughts are with you all. I was fortunate to know George my entire life, from neighbourhood connections to scouting, working in their yard to firefighting.
I always loved George's goofiness, and his willingness to help someone to learn. I learned to never let him teach me to drive, for he could grind gears extremely well, to which he would give his trademark grin and a smart comment. "Mr. Conrad, it lets people know they need to get out of the way."
He will be missed, and while I'm sorry he is gone, he lived an amazing life on the land and giving back to his community. His legacy will live through many of us.
My condolences to the entire family during this time.

To Aunt Ruth, Peter, Susan, Allen, Mary & Nancy
We are so sorry to hear of the passing of Uncle George. Gail has many fond memories growing up visiting your home when she was young. We always came running when he blew that bugle. My mother, Eileen so loved when Big Brother would bring her a Christmas tree every year. Uncle George was always teasing Gail how short she was & he still did when he & Aunt Ruth came to visit us in Grande Prairie in 2007. While George was visiting us in Grande Prairie he showed Sheldon the proper way to sharpen a chainsaw. Sheldon may not be an expert at sharpening a saw, but he was certainly taught by one. Working in the woods never seemed to be a job to him because when you are doing something you love, you never have to work a day in your life. We have added some photos of our fond memories of George & Ruth.

I never had the privilege of knowing the George Lake described by the many tributes mentioned in his obituary. George came into my life very briefly about 35 years ago,as a Good Samaritan on Highway 103 near Blockhouse. I was traveling home from Halifax with a young son when a red light appeared on my car dash!
I pulled over to the side of the road wondering about how I would get home. This was before the days of cell phones and I knew precious little about car mechanics.
My Good Samaritan George came to my rescue. With no water to top up my radiator, George advised me to let the car cool down for half an hour and then to travel on until the radiator light came on again. I was fortunate to reach Bridgewater without incident because of George's advice and support. Thank you George.

Ruth & Family, I have known George most of my life and worked with him and for him during his time as a foreman at Scott Paper, Instructor of the forestry class at the Lunenburg County Vocational School and after he retired from the school while running his forestry business. Your husband , father and grandfather was a very hard working, fair and honest man who I am proud to say I knew and will always remember. Although he is gone I expect he has taken on a new role , that of watching over his family from above. I am sure that George will be greatly missed by all of you, but he left you with a lot of great memories to cherish. RIP George.
We will be sending a donation to S.H.A.I.D in memory of George

It is with deep sadness that my "old" mentor has passed. I co-taught the forestry program at Lunenburg Campus with George for 5 years, till he retired in 1993.
George was a wonderful teacher inspiring his students with his extensive knowledge and life skills. Students absolutely loved hearing his life stories and experiences as did I.
George had an old fashion work ethic ..always early to work and late to leave if necessary preparing for the next day.
He had a curious positive mind, always open to learn new knowledge and how everything around him functioned.
George always found ways to solve difficult problems often waking in the night with the answer.
He had a wonderful laugh which made people around him laugh. His stories always included laughter making them memorable. He could talk to anyone for hours which made him a real peoples person.
He was an early forest ranger grad who helped pioneer forest management, logging techniques, Christmas tree shearing and road and bridge construction in the province. He had done it all and the student's were so lucky to have his as an instructor. The forestry program he pioneered in Bridgewater was the first of its kind in Canada.
He had a true love for the woods and the nature contained within it . He understood the importance of functioning ecosystems and ecosystem management. In his memory I will continue donating a trophy to a deserving student in the NRET program at Lunenburg Campus in ecosystem identification.
George was a mentor and my friend and I will miss him. My condolences to Ruth and the extended family.

Thoughts are with you Peter, Mary & Family. Reading the obituary it is clear he was fortunate to make his living from what he liked doing and as a Scout leader sure he introduced a lot of boys to the beauty of nature and with living to the motto "Do your Best". A life well lived. May you rest in peace Mr. Lake and continue to watch over and guide those you have inspired.
