To all the family,
We were very saddened to hear of Bud’s passing. We offer our deepest sympathy during this sad time in your lives.
Bud was a real gentleman, kind and caring.
He arrived at the store one day to ask if I was Wilf Crouse’s sister. I answered yes and he said they were friends and had been at Dal together. From then on he drop in for a visit and shared little stories of my brother at Dal. There was 13 Years difference in our ages so I was young at the time and really didn’t know a lot of his time there. I really appreciated it.
May the memories you have overcome the sadness in time.
Sincerely,
Billie & Dawn

I met Bud when we were at Dalhousie - he always had the lead in our dreadful Gilbert and Sullivan presentations. I thought he was the best looking man on campus and the nicest, too. A few years ago I lent him an irreverent little book written by a Halifax judge in the late 1700's. He got such a kick out of it that he searched out the editor and got his own (signed) copy! Conversations with Bud were always tremendously interesting and great fun. I'll miss him, as will as all those who knew him.
Julie
Our condolences go the whole Kimball family as I too enjoyed my encounters with Bud at Crescent Beach and know him to be the finest kind of person. For example, I broke down on my windsurfer in front of his cottage many years ago and he invited me ashore. I ended up dragging all my surviving gear onto his beautiful lawn. Thanks Bud for being so kind and understanding. You are truly missed by me.

Dear Andrew, Burns, Ian and families. Very sorry to hear of the passing of your Dad. He was a wonderful person and will surely be missed by all of you and so many more. Bud sang at our wedding way back in 1970. What a wonderful voice and meant so much to me to have him be part of our special day, along with Burns being our ring bearer. Please know that our heartfelt thoughts and prayers are with you at this difficult time. Crystal (cousin) and Butch Jones and family.

Dear family,
I was deeply moved to hear of Bud’s passing. As so many of the condolences here have stated, he was a true gentleman, and a Renaissance man. From the time I first met him, I was impressed with his calm demeanour and his many contributions to the Valley and Western Counties Judges Association. He was our convenor until his retirement, and we always benefitted from his leadership and contribution to our discussions. From 1999 to 2005 he ended each agenda with a Latin saying, and at his last meeting he presented each of us with a small booklet he had printed which contained them, each on its own page, with (thank goodness) an English translation. I took it down from my library shelf just now and looked through them all again. Taken together they sum up the ethics of his legal career (and to some extent at least) his personality, from “Die dulci fruere” (Have a nice day) to “Si finis bonus est, totum bonum erit” (All’s well that ends well) and “Fiat justitia, ruat coelum” (Let justice be done, even though the heavens should fall). That was Bud as I knew him for those too few years: a man who believed deeply in law and justice, leavening both his calm kindness and just a hint of a smile that let you know he got the joke.
Vis tecum sit (May the force be with you) as you travel the rest of life’s road without the sage advice and deep caring of this wonderful man, whose words and life were a force of their own.
Sincerely,
Anne

Oh I am so saddened with the passing of Judge Kimball, as this is the name I used. I so enjoyed working for this man when he came into the judges chambers. In court he was so patient, understanding, and outside court he mingled with all staff. Wanted to know what was happening in our lives. He came to our wedding in September 2003. He gave us a beautiful wool throw which I have on the back of my chair. I treasure this gift. The boys have lost a great dad. I know he has been sick for some time now. He is at peace and will be with Jane finally.
My thoughts are with you at this time. God be with you.

I was saddened to read the obituary today. I remember the course of my life being changed by this wonderful man when I played for the Valley Wildcats AAA Midgets with Burns. I was just a kid from a small community with a lot of adversity behind and in front of me but watching Judge Kimball conduct himself with such class and compassion to all the team through that season where we were not that good compared to the rest of the league made a lasting impression on me. I strive daily to bring even a small modicum of that to my life as I felt this was how a truly good man was to conduct himself. Thank you Judge Kimball for that lesson
