Obituary of Emily Odessa Lane
Emily Odessa Lane (Wright), 89. It is with deep sadness that the family announces her peaceful passing on January 1, 2021 at the QE II Hospital. Predeceased by her husband, Vernon in 2010, sister Evelyn and brothers Cecil and Donald. She is survived by her sons Douglas, Donald (Janette) and David (Michelle); grandchildren Curtis, Janice and Stephen; as well as brother Edison Wright (Winnipeg). Emily was born in Halifax on September 16, 1931 to Arthur and Annie (Stearns) Wright of Hammonds Plains. She raised her family as a military wife for 25 years while posted in places like Soest, Germany and Washington, DC. The family then settled in the community of Hebbville where she helped maintain a large property and vegetable gardens. She became a key volunteer with the Hebbville Fire hall Ladies Auxiliary (catering countless weddings and community events). After moving into Bridgewater, she became more involved with St. Joseph's Catholic Church by co-leading its catering committee, volunteering at the Knights of Columbus bingos and counting the weekly collections. She was also an active member of the Michelin Retirees Club, where she and Vernon organized Club activities for many years. Emily dedicated her life to her family and community and always available to lend a hand. She was a terrific cook and baker, well known for apple crisps and homemade donuts at Christmas. She loved all of her family – there were no favourites! In more recent years, Emily was a resident of Parkland Clayton Park in Halifax, where she spent many happy years before needing the enhanced care she received at the Dykeland Nursing Home in Windsor this past fall. Caring and supportive staff in each of those facilities, as well as those who provided for her growing medical needs over the past year were all deeply appreciated. Emily will be deeply missed by her family and friends and loved and remembered always. A Catholic Funeral Liturgy will be held at St. John the Apostle Parish, 123 Pleasant St, Bridgewater at 11am on Friday, January 8. Interment to follow.
