Obituary of Cheryl Edith Romkey
ROMKEY, Cheryl Edith.
We are saddened to share the news of the passing of our mother and grandmother, Cheryl, on Monday, June 14, after a lengthy illness.
Daughter of the late James and Lillian (MacKenzie) Wilson, Mom was born in Ottawa but was raised on the shores of the Miramichi River and was a proud New Brunswicker who never forgot her roots. She made many trips home to visit family and friends.
Mom was predeceased by her beloved husband, Gordon Romkey III, and adored son Raymond. She is survived by daughter Charmaine (Wayne Mosher) and son James (Bonnie), grandsons Jake, Andrew and Michael Mosher and by step-grandchildren Mariah and Brendan, niece Jennifer Ste. Croix and nephew Tom Chambers. Mom had no siblings but treasured her cousins dearly. She had special cousins who were like brothers to her, Michael Allen, Stuart Wilson, and Randy MacTavish. Mom had many visits with Randy, Joanne and their children Jennifer and Randy-John who called her Auntie Cheryl. Mom leaves behind friends who will miss her kindness and her sense of humour.
Mom began her career at Imperial Oil and then worked at the Dartmouth Mental Health Centre. In 1995, as a retirement project, Mom, Dad and Ray opened the Crescent Beach General and began new careers; they loved being such a part of and connecting with the community. The store was a labour of love for them all and things were not the same once Dad and then Ray passed away.
The family would like to acknowledge and thank her health professionals, Dr, Drucker, Dr. Ha., Dr. DuToit and especially her family physician, Dr. Gisele Marier. Special thanks to oncology nurse, Mirela, doctors Harris, Sibley, Chaisson and the nursing staff on 4th Floor Medical South Shore Regional Hospital; their many kindnesses and caring will not be forgotten and made her final days as comfortable as possible.
Due to the limitations of the current Public Health situation, a private graveside service will be held for family. Family flowers only. Should you choose to do so, memorial donations would be appreciated to the South Shore Public Library, the South Shore Regional Hospital or St. Matthew’s Presbyterian Church, West Dublin.
The caring support and kind words of friends and family have meant so much during this most difficult time.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Sweeny’s Funeral Home, 35 York Street, Bridgewater where online condolences and donations may be made by visiting www.sweenysfuneralhome.com.
