Obituary of Frances Gayle Smith

SMITH, FRANCES GAYLE

December 6, 1940 - May 2, 2022

 

With great sadness we announce the passing of our loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, Frances Gayle Smith, aged 81 of Berwick and Bridgewater, Nova Scotia. Gayle passed away with her family by her side on Monday, May 2, 2022 at South Shore Regional Hospital in Bridgewater.

 

Born in Berwick on December 6, 1940, the daughter of her late parents, Ford and Frances (Sullivan) Drew.

 

Gayle is survived by her daughter, Julie Smith; sister, Audrey Boylan; brothers, Wayne Drew (Elva Geldart), David (Elaine) Drew; grandchildren, Miranda Hamm, Jesse Hamm (Martina); great grandchild, Damion Hamm; step children, Brenton (Denise) Smith, Rick Smith, Fred Smith, Kevin (Susan) Smith, Valencia (Paul) Cizek; step daughter-in-law, Denise Emberley; along with many more step grandchildren, grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews and best friend, Donna Aker.

 

Besides her parents, Gayle was predeceased by her husband, Frederick Charles Smith; sisters; Ruby Morton, Mary Gwendolyn Hutchinson; brother, Reginald Drew and stepson Myles Smith.

 

Gayle was devoted to her family, always a good friend and had an incredibly big heart. In the early years Gayle graduated from the X-ray program at the Halifax Infirmary and put her skills to work in a career she loved, in many hospitals. Prior to retirement she worked 20 years as Head of Department at South Shore Regional Hospital in Bridgewater.

A Celebration of Life will be held from 1-5 p.m., Saturday, September 17, 2022, at 2915 trunk 3, East Chester. In lieu of flowers please make any memorial donations in Mom’s name to a charity of your choice.
