Obituary of Helen Ann Murdock

MURDOCK, Helen Ann (nee Dunlop) - It is with sadness and loving memories, that we announce the passing of a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and sister, on April 13, 2023 in Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville.

Helen was born February 18, 1930 and lived in New Campbellton, Cape Breton. She moved to Truro to attend Teacher’s College and it was there she met Dave, who would share 62 years of marriage with her. She and Dave raised their family in Truro where they also built and operated the Glengarry Motel and Restaurant for 17 years. They later moved to the Bridgewater area and made more wonderful friends. Many winters were spent enjoying the sunshine in Ft. Myers, Florida.

Helen had many loves in her life; her family, volunteering, golfing and having fun with their many great friends. She was a member of the Truro, Lunenburg and Osprey Ridge Golf Clubs and held many volunteer positions at the courses over the years. Helen was also a founding member of the Canadian Diabetes Association’s Truro Branch and she and Dave gave years of their time to the organization. She also enjoyed being a part of United Church choirs in Truro and Bridgewater. Their houses were always filled with laughter from the many bridge club parties and fun with long-time friends.

Helen was predeceased by her husband, David; mother, Rhoda and father Frank; sister, Kaye (Vohar); brothers, Gordon and Roderick and grandson, David Atkinson.

Remembering her are daughters, Susan Atkinson, Katherine Gador (Rob); sons, Brian and Ward (Kim); grandchildren, Mark, Lauren, Keith, Robin, Rachel, Ryan, Michelle and Melanie as well as five great grandchildren and her nieces and nephews.
