Christina Sannes

Obituary of Christina Mary Sannes

Christina “Chris” Mary Sannes (Hicks) passed away Tuesday, January 14, 2025, at the age of 77, surrounded by her daughters.

She was born on April 27, 1947, in Killarney, Manitoba, to Glenson “Glen” Amos Hicks and Joyce Mary (Scott) Hicks, previously Mason and later Clark.

Her family ran the local service station. Chris shared many fond memories about her time in Killarney. It was there that her love of Coca-Cola began. She would pop the lids off the bottles in the machine and drink the Coke from a straw, leaving an empty bottle for the next person.

The family moved to Calgary in the early '60s. While there, she met the love of her life, Allan “Al” Sannes. They were married in 1967. They loved each other dearly and were an example to their daughters of what a marriage should be.

Chris was a devoted mother to her three daughters, Tracy (Jay Gilmore), Milissa (Frank Ascencao), and Jennifer (Kenneth Hanshaw). Her love for them was boundless, and they reciprocated that love. Her relationship with her sons-in-law was also one of deep respect and affection.

Al's job took them across the country, from Vancouver to Halifax. Along the way, Chris made lifelong friends. Chris and Al retired to Nova Scotia, where she embarked on a new adventure as Grandma to her five beloved grandchildren, Aidan, Georgia, Samuel, Sabrina, and Evalina.

Her extended family will miss Chris, or "Tina" as she was known to her nieces and nephews.

Chris's love for animals was a testament to her kind heart. She never met a dog she didn't like, and throughout the years, she always had a furry companion. Toughie, Brandy, Dusty, Shopper the Cat, Maggie, Mollie, Raggs, Oliver, and Gracie await her to bring treats. Rosie, her beloved last dog, passed away the day before she did.

Chris was an avid reader and loved to learn. She was happiest with a good book, a Coke, and a dog. Someone should let the Coca-Cola company know they are about to have a real slump in sales.

She was predeceased by her husband, Allan Sannes; her father, Glen Hicks; mother, Joyce Clark; brothers, Ivan Mason, Russell Mason, and Harley Hicks; father-in-law, Edward Sannes; mother-in-law, Alice Sannes; brother-in-law, Jim Sannes; and son-in-law Frank Ascencao.

We love you, Mom, and you will be missed by all who knew you.

Following Chris's wishes, there will be no services. Memorial donations may be made to the SHAID Tree Animal Shelter in Nova Scotia.
